Just got my BFP after two losses - aspirin?

Had a MMC in July and an early MC the previous year. Had BFP this am.

I'm terrified. Should I take aspirin? I called EPAU and she advised against it unless I had a known clotting problem, which I don't.

What's everyone's opinion? I can't take another loss.

I did for 2 pregnancies following 2 early MCs and carried both to term. Spoke to the GP who said she couldn't see the harm as it's a low dose.

Hi OP,
So sorry for your losses and congratulations on your new pregnancy.
I had three losses before my current pregnancy and was under the recurrent miscarriage clinic. I was advised to take aspirin only at 8 weeks and not before - here is the leaflet they gave me with their reasoning behind it: mft.nhs.uk/app/uploads/sites/4/2018/04/12-123-Recurrent-Miscarriage-Service-January-2015.pdf

Is there anyone you can speak with about your concerns? My GP was fabulous with me and arranged an early scan to help with the anxiety in those early weeks. I hope it all works out for you this time x

Thanks both.

@MrsEG thank you for the link - I will give it a good read. The anxiety is unreal isn't it, I have such an unsettled stomach because of it. Good shout about the GP, I will call tomorrow. Thank you so much xx

Another worry I have is that I had my smear last week! I know in the US they do them as routine antenatal care so I'm hoping I'm ok.

I never had aspirin in first trimester because of miscarriages. I know thou in the USA use to give it.

I think in uk they are not happy to give it because of this reason.

Rubyroost · 22/01/2020 20:04

I didn't have aspirin, but I was convinced my miscarriages were chromosomal.

Rubyroost · 22/01/2020 20:05

Think you'll be fine re smear btw

I'm 6 weeks pregnant after a mmc last year. When I saw my GP Iast week I asked about aspirin and was told you should only take it if you have a proven clotting issue. He said if you don't an issue it can actually cause more harm than good.

DaisyF1986 · 22/01/2020 20:06

I've had two miscarriages and an ectopic. When I went to the repeat miscarriage clinic I was borderline for clotting and they said I didn't need to do anything. GP advised to take aspirin though and I am now 7 weeks. Had a phone call with her yesterday and she advised to keep taking it. She said she was advised to take it herself when she had a pregnancy via IVF. No idea if it will help but I feel comforted knowing that I am doing something to try.
Good luck
X

Hey OP

I've had two MCs and I'm pregnant again now, early days. I had gone to see a private clinic for some tests after my second MC but before we could complete those I had my BFP. They've put me on aspirin and clexane as a precaution and I'm being monitored there. I don't think it can do any harm as a baby aspirin is only 75mg.

It's your choice of course! Good luck!

SnoozyLou · 22/01/2020 20:12

I had 2 losses and I didn't take aspirin. I am on 5mg folic acid and vitamin d. I took iron supplements in the beginning until I'd been tested to make sure I wasn't deficient.

Congratulations OP.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 22/01/2020 20:35

I took low dose aspirin after 3 losses, and that one did stick. I did have increased spotting for the first few weeks though which was scary.
It wasn't on medical advice specifically, but I did ask medics at work as well as do fairly detailed research, and tbh I was desperate.

SomeHalfHumanCreatureThing · 22/01/2020 20:36

I also took higher dose folic acid too, I'd forgotten about that.

Thanks, everyone. I appreciate it. Such differing advice from HCPs.

I want to wait until 16 weeks (fingers crossed) to tell people. So hard.
