Hi,

I have just had my BFP over the weekend. Expected my period on Sunday. Should I call my dr straightaway to make an appointment?

What happens in that first appointment?

Xx

I called my GP the day after I found out (Xmas day!) and she told me to self refer to the local Women'a Hospital. I called them and they made me an appointment for Jan 24 (seemed like ages away at the time!)

I think they ask you questions about your lifestyle, health, and situation, and take blood. Have a look on the NHS website as there's a whole page of info.

Congrats!

Unless you are on medication you just need to book in to the midwife and they wil get you an appointment about 8weeks or so. Mw will ask you lots of questions, take your blood and weigh you.
If you're on medication speak to the doctor ASAP to be advised on your medication.

Same were I live. If you can’t find the number online the drs receptionist should be able to help,

Congratulations

Congratulations! This varies so much from area to area. Your best bet is to call your GP and ask the local procedure. Best of luck! X

Congrats! I just rang my GP, they told me to come in to fill in a referral form and they sent my details to the local midwife.

Had my first appointment 5 weeks later, they went though my medical history, asked about my partner, my living situation and support network, took bloods and a urine sample xx

Mr first Dr's appointment was at about 6 weeks and pointless. She just said there's nothing she can do and to self refer online and a midwife would get in contact with me (South-east England here).

Congrats!

You don’t need to see a doctor usually unless you have concerns. That said, generally if you give them a call, they’ll give you the number of your local midwife team or tell you how to self refer to them Smile

Barney77 · 21/01/2020 10:28

Congratulations!

Most places you don’t need a doctors appointment but need to organise a booking appointment with the midwife team and they will organise scans and other appointments from there. Midwife team can be based at the GP or hospital or a community centre, best thing is to call your GPs and ask and reception will be able to send you in the right direction.

The booking appointment with the midwife is usually when you are 8-10 weeks but good to get it in the diary early.

I didn’t tell my gp at all. Just self referred for a booking appt with the midwife at the local hospital.

Thank you all for your replies. I called the GP and they have made me an appointment with midwife for when I'll be 8 weeks.

Seems so far away, but pleased I've got it booked in!
