Can I store bottles for night feed in end of side sleeper?

Hi guys,

This may be a straight no and please dont judge if it's a stupid question 🤣🙈

I am booked in for a section on wednesday and we have just set up the next to me in the bedroom. At the moment the bedside tables we have are quite chunky and it means the chicco starts about a foot down the bed.

Not a massive issue in itself but makes getting in and out of bed after a section even harder and is also blocking bedroom door a bit.

We are planning on using ready made bottles for night feeds and at present have them on the bedside table. Other than this I could get rid of table as they are the only thing we really need.

Just wondered if there is any reason not to put these down the bottom end of the chicco in the crib? He wont be anywhere near them but means I dont need to get up or stretch across the crib after the section.

Any other suggestions welcome!

Thanks!

In the crib with him? Don't babies have to have their feet touching the base of the bassinet so they can't wriggle down under the covers?
What are premade bottles? Do they not have to be refrigerated?

SnoozyLou · 20/01/2020 01:11

They won't be warm, unless I'm missing something.

McGruff · 20/01/2020 01:15

Even if they are made cold don't they need to be refrigerated ahead of time?

My youngest is 10 so I'm not up on recent guidelines but I would never have made a bottle and left it room temperature all night to drink?

MsChatterbox · 20/01/2020 01:16

Swap it over, baby's feet touching end of crib, bottles at top of crib. Of course this is only OK with unopened premade bottles and not powdered formula.

Buy a cheap shower caddy and hang it off the side with the bottles in

katee90 · 20/01/2020 01:19

Hi OP, it's actually your baby who will be at the 'bottom' of your next to me i.e his feet will need to be touching the base to avoid him wriggling down. That would then mean the pre made bottles would have to be put near his head which would be a total no no as it would on increase the risk of SIDS. It sounds as though it would be worth you doing some reading on safe sleep guidelines before Wednesday. Good luck, hope your delivery goes well

@SnoozyLou they're fine to be given at room temperature

BlueEyedFloozy · 20/01/2020 01:20

If it's the ready made stuff you can keep them unopened at room temp but opened or hand made need to be refrigerated to stem bacteria growth - much like we probably wouldn't want to drink a glass of milk that had sat for 4+ hours I suppose!

You could get a mini fridge to store them in your room.

katee90 · 20/01/2020 01:21

@McGruff they're bought ready made. You just pour the contents into a sterilised bottle and go i.e no water/ powder. Kind of like the bottled milk you'd buy for a cat? They only need to be put in the fridge if opened and not used

MsChatterbox · 20/01/2020 01:28

P.s my suggestion would also only work when baby is tiny and the bottles would be no where near them. As they got longer I would not advise this. You can get organisers that hang off the end of cribs.. I used to store Wipes and dummies in mine.

Cherry85 · 20/01/2020 01:36

Sorry when I said down the bottom I just meant at the end in general... not as in baby would be at the top 🙈

Yes they are the ready to go ones that come premade and steriliser and dont need to be in the fridge.
@MsChatterbox I have never heard of a crib organiser before - that is EXACTLY what i need! Thank you so much - much better option!

I knew mumsnet would have a solution!!

Put it in between your pillows in the bed if you have space.

Good luck for your new baby.

SnoozyLou · 20/01/2020 01:59

@katee90 They might be, but mine wouldn't touch it if it wasn't warm enough.

katee90 · 20/01/2020 08:46

@SnoozyLou ah that's a pain. My DS was fine taking his at room temp

SnoozyLou · 20/01/2020 09:02

@katee90 I guess it's what they're used to. He went from breast milk to formula - it never entered my head to give it to him at room temperature - my problem was cooling it quickly enough. But yes. One degree too cool and it was sent back! Smile
