5 weeks pregnant, racing heart rate, thyroid?

Hi all!

Firstly thanks for reading this.

It's 2 am and for the second night in a row I've woken up with racing heart rate, like my brain can't switch off! My blood pressure thankfully was normal yesterday. I'm currently 5 weeks pregnant with second baby. After my first DS I developed an overactive thyroid and was giving proprananol until it sorted itself out naturally, which it did thankfully after about 5-6 months. Back in the summer I had thyroid checked again and it showed normal levels but exceptionally high antibodies. GP was not concerned and just said I was at risk of getting it again but that at the moment levels are fine.

I'm paranoid I've developed overactive again as symptoms now are similar to what I experienced last time, jittery, mind racing, resting heart rate high etc, and im at risk of miscarriage or causing harm to the baby. I'm even considering getting my husband to take me to the out of hours GP/a&e tomorrow (Sunday). I had a thyroid blood test on Thursday last week which hopefully I'll have results for on Monday/Tuesday.

This is a very longed for baby I suffer with endometriosis and each time it's been a long process of surgery etc to even get to the point of being able to fall pregnant. I feel annoyed at myself for not sorting it out earlier but GP didn't seem keen to do anything until levels were actually abnormal despite high antibodies. Sad

Anyone with experience of this? I feel like I'm going out of my mind, literally!

Hi,
Can you clarify what antibodies are high? I was diagnosed with Graves' Disease 5 years ago so suffered terribly with an overactive thyroid. I too was on propranolol and many other meds to name a few. Jan last year I opted to have my thyroid completely removed because the meds I was on meant I couldn't be on them forever. I achieved normal levels in September and very fortunately, fell pregnant immediately. I have also been experiencing overactive symptoms again but with a close eye from the doctor's, everything is going well so far. I'm 19 weeks now and I've been told that my antibodies are also high, so the baby will need extra scans to check his thyroid too. My only advice is try not too worry, it will make the symptoms worse and therefore out you in an anxious loop. My thyroid levels went massively underactive in my first trimester, as baby started sucking up all of my hormones. I've now achieved "perfect" levels and yes I still worry that my antibodies are high but I trust the consultants to put me on the right course of treatment. You have made the first right step and I was probably as far along as you were when I initially went to the doctor's to get my levels tested. Sorry, this post is long, I hope it helps to ease you Smile x

I have a normal thyroid as far as I'm aware! But I do wake up with a racing heart, feels like it's all over the place but only happens when I'm having a day time nap Confused

Hi,

Thanks for your replies! It's my thyroglobulin antibodies that were very high at 573 kU/L, but thyroid was normal. When I spoke to GP they said this was normal and just meant by body was fighting something and they aren't concerned until it gets so bad it starts impacting the thyroid levels and they in turn become abnormal.

I suspect it's the pregnancy that's triggered hyper again, I'm going to get on it on Monday but just terrified it's impacted the baby in some way, I'm only just 5 weeks.

Ask for a b12 and folate blood test done. I had the same in my last pregnancy and it turned out I had very low b12. I was diagnosed with pernicious anemia and now have b12 jabs. The heartbeat issues stopped immediately. Hope this helps x
