UK holiday at 36 weeks pregnant?

I found out I was pregnant at Christmas, complete surprise (but a very happy one!!). We have already booked a holiday which will fall when I am about 36 weeks pregnant. It's in the UK but will involve taking a ferry (so not just a case of a quick drive).

Is it realistic that I will still be able to go? When I was pregnant with my son I was high risk and wasnt allowed to travel after 32 weeks but assuming that this time I have a straight forward low risk pregnancy.... Should I still plan on going?

We can't change the date or the location as its a group holiday with a lot of friends and family we haven't seen for a long time.

Would love to know what people think? Should I just wait and see and risk losing the money, or just accept now that it's a bad idea and try and get my money back?

If you were high risk on your first pregnancy the odds are it will be the same for your second - only time will tell - I think you'll have to decide much nearer the time

Personally I wouldn’t, I went on a UK family trip last year at 35 weeks and hated it. I was so tired and honestly it was too much for me with all the people and I felt I had to take part in everything to make it worthwhile. I ended up having my baby the week after at 36 weeks exactly so next time I am staying home towards the end for sure! I would wait until nearer the time to see how your pregnancy goes, at that point I had all sorts of aches and pains and would have been better off at home!

Would you be near a maternity unit on the holiday? I refused to travel to stay at s hotel 3 hours drive from home at 37 weeks pregnant. Just as well as she was born between 34 and 35 weeks with no warning and a short labour.

That's a good point about being near a hospital, would have to look into that.

Does it usually follow if you are high risk with your first you'll be high risk with the second? I assumed it was just down to the individual circumstances. Have my midwife appointment in the next few weeks so hopefully she'll be able to answer That!

It depends why you were high-risk first time.

Check the ts and cs of the ferry company. Some want a doctor’s note after 28 weeks, others may not let you travel at all.

Check with the ferry company first off to see if they will take you.
Not sure I could have handled a trip that late but everyone is different. Congratulations! :)

I'd try to get the money back if it were me. I've just done something similar, last week I booked flights to go abroad end of August and just found out im pregnant this week. I'll be nearly 36 weeks by then. I could still fly with a doctor's note but I know that will be the last thing I'll want to do. I had my first at 37 weeks and my second at 39. I know I'll be feeling like a giant whale at 36 weeks! I can't get a refund but will try to change the dates
