Anyone with uncomplicated pregnancy not being measured by MW?

From reading about other people’s experiences in various pregnancy threads I’m just wondering whether it is normal not to be measured/weighed or scanned at all between 20 wk scan and birth? I know that these bump measurements and predictions about birthweight have a reputation as being highly unreliable but it does seem that most people are being measured? Or is this only if there are potential issues e.g. gestational diabetes

I guess I’m asking because I’m 33 weeks and have a very petite bump. I had a low bmi (normal for me) when I got pregnant and have really not put on much weight during pregnancy (4 kg) but no-one seems remotely concerned. I have not been weighed since booking appointment and have never been measured. I’m giving birth at a large london teaching hospital and trying to reassure myself that they are up to date with best practice and simply don’t bother measuring because it is not very reliable?

Hello, 35 weeks here!
I was weighed at booking and also my 12 week scan but never since so don't think it's just you.
I've only been measured twice now, once yesterday (was supposed to be 36 weeks appointment but I can't make that) and once at the appointment before so I don't think they start that until late. From what I've read and heard from other people's experiences, measuring isn't that accurate but maybe it depends on your area?
Also low risk, MLC

Yes you should have your bump measured. Which hospital is it?

yellowbusplease · 17/01/2020 20:25

It's normal not to be weighed or have any scans after 20 weeks, but I thought bump measuring was standard?

Weighed, no. Not since booking.

In my area, they start measuring your bump at the 28 week appointment. It’s been the same both pregnancies of mine. I have a little graph in my notes that they plot the growth on (plus note blood pressure & wee sample results). So I’ve been measured at 28 weeks & 31 weeks. Next appointment is 34.

I think they probably should be, it’s important they keep a track baby is growing OK - I know bump isn’t everything but if you were significantly over or under, they’d likely refer you for a scan! Perhaps query at your next appointment?

Should be being measured even if all is normal. I’m 34 weeks and was measured at 24/28/31/34 week appointments. If you were having regular growth scans you wouldn’t need them but if you’re not having either how can they be reassured your baby is growing as they should be? I’d absolutely bring this up at the next appointment, NICE guidelines recommend measuring bump at each antenatal visit so it’s not a change in practice.

I was only measured once this pregnancy but was every appointment my previous ones in a different area.

I was only weighed at my booking appointment but had my bump measured at every appointment from around 28 weeks i think it was! Normal not to have any scans from after 20 weeks

You might be in my trust, OP (also a large London teaching hospital). They too have recently stopped measuring because it's just not accurate. However they have recently introduced a routine scan at 36 weeks which will pick up baby position and look at amniotic fluid etc. Just as your midwives at the next appointment and they'll be happy to explain why the protocol has changed.

I havent been weighed that much, I think once at my booking appointment and then once more when I went to the assessment unit for a PV bleed.

I had my bump measured at my 31 week appointment and I get the impression its going to be a routine thing now.

Whens your next appointment?

I haven't had my bump measured for ages now, mainly because i am overweight and have had regular growth scans. I think I did hear somewhere that they were phasing fundal measurements out as they are inaccurate.
