The POSITIVITY Thread

Hi girls

So, I don't know about you all, but I'm finding it very difficult to stay positive/optimistic about my (very early) pregnancy, when all I do is monitor various threads on mumsnet / google / blogs etc.

Most of the stuff you find on the internet is horror stories, fears about miscarriages, anxiety about labour, and all other kinds of problems.

It's making it impossible to stay calm and feel excited about being pregnant! I could of course stop going on the internet... But I am completely and utterly unable to do that, as I NEED to talk to other women in my situation.

So what I suggest is this : a thread where only positive/optimistic talk is allowed, so that we can maintain some real positivity in our lives, and build optimism in our minds. It can only be good for baby right??
There are many other threads to anxiously ask questions, fret about symptoms, grieve over miscarriages, and freak out about impending motherhood.

This is the POSITIVITY thread Grin

Let me start of by saying that I am SO SO SO happy to have had my BFP this week-end!! I am now 4+4, and can't wait to reach the 5w milestone on Sunday. Baby will apparently have grown to 9mm by then!! The heart is meant to start beating on dpo22, so I'm looking forward to that on Tuesday 22/01 :) (it's quite easy to keep track of DPO's when you ovulate on the last day of the month lol)

I've started daydreaming about buying maternity clothes (I'm a bit of a shopaholic oops...), and can't wait to find some stylish ones!! I think H&M and ASOS will be my starting points. I almost already feel like my jeans are too tight, but that's obviously just bloating lol.

I am also looking forward to telling my mum face-to-face tomorrow :) I've asked to come over for lunch ; little does she know what news awaits!!! I already know she'll be thrilled, and will be a huge support in the next few months (probably more so than my DH hahaha...)

So... any more optimism, happy thoughts and (soon-to-be) reached milestones out there?? Wink

Such a nice idea for a thread! I'm also pretty darn happy to be pregnant, and DH is over the moon. It's honestly a dream come true.

Aww I love this! Congratulations on your pregancy!

I’m 8+3 today and it’s my first pregnancy. Like you I’ve been obsessing over MNs threads and have been super anxious about anything going wrong, but we just have to remember that it’s much more likely we will have a healthy pregnancy and birth. Also MNs is skewed towards something going wrong as it’s more likely women will post for reassurance if anything is worrying them or if they’ve had trouble in the past.

I had my first midwife appointment yesterday and an early scan last week at 7+2 and everything is going well so far ❤️ I found out I was pregnant when I was 8dpo (super faint line) so it’s just taken forever to get to 8 weeks. I’ve got my 12 week scan in 4 weeks and I’m so excited but have a feeling it’s going to be the longest 4 weeks

mimmi91 · 16/01/2020 18:21

Yay welcome @bezalelle and @melbs6 !
Telling DH was such an amazing feeling wasn't it?! ❤️
And yay, congrats on the early scan @melbs6 , that must have been such an emotional moment!!

I've just had to tell my physiotherapist today (I see him once a week for my scoliosis), and he was so happy and positive! Told me not to go on the internet to look things up when I'm worried (oops...) and just let nature take its course... It felt amazing to have someone from the medical field be so positive and reassuring (especially since I haven't seen a doctor/midwife yet) :D

Ah what a lovely thread OP! Congrats everyone!!!

I need some positivity! I’m currently 32+1 and I am loving that I pretty much have everything I need (and really don’t need but liked/wanted) and love being able to decide what to do in the babies room

Also counting down the time where I get to finally meet her is really exciting and planning the birth (even if all my plans fall to the wayside) is very empowering and it’s so amazing what our bodies can do!

mimmi91 · 17/01/2020 09:33

@Bibby26 aahh that's amazing to read someone who's so far along!! Congrats to you too, and I wish you to have an amazing last few weeks of pregnancy, and that meeting your daughter is all that would hoped it would be (it obviously will be haha!)

I'm feeling positive today as my HCG test line is getting darker everyday, and my boobs started feeling sore haha! It's the little things that bring reassurance really ❤️

Am also really looking forward to telling my mum today!! I just know she'll be thrilled :D

@mimmi91 enjoy telling your mum! Let us know what she says 🥰

Chefwifelife · 18/01/2020 06:42

What a lovely thread @mimmi91. I’ve been feeling a bit anxious in my second pregnancy after a year of ttc but keep looking at Mumsnet posts; it’s like I’m trying to find the bad.

I’m 7+3 and looking forward to an early scan next weekend.

rainingoutsideagain · 18/01/2020 06:48

What a lovely thread! So here are the things I wish I had done more as now I miss my little bump and now have a huge one - which I still love but make sure you wear tight t shirts! Be proud of that little pouch, play happy music everyday and dance while you can, smile every morning when you wake knowing you're going to be a Mum. Get lost in a good book as when you get nearer to the end all you do is think about baby - it's great but make the most of being you for a little while. Buy second hand baby grows, I have so many great buys and really enjoyed saving money! Book a pregnancy massage, they really do help with the aching bones.
Be happy that life has given you the best gift ever - we are going to be Mums!! It's amazing isn't it xx

mrs87 · 18/01/2020 07:39

This is such a good idea. I'm 6+4 and since I found out at 4 weeks I've been an anxious wreck convinced something is going to go wrong! Even though I feel like reading other people's similar worries helps, all the bad stories and unhappy endings probably don't and I haven't let myself get excited yet.

So I could use some positivity! We have an early scan booked for next weekend (7+6) and the idea of my husband and I seeing something there is amazing as I've not really had any symptoms. I can't wait to get to the stage where I can start to buy things, and decorate little ones room - those are the things that will make it feel real, I think! (Along with an actual bump, of course)

Congratulations to everyone whatever stage you're at Grin

Nelbert19 · 18/01/2020 08:22

Lovely thread!

I’m 12+5 and FINALLY had our dating scan this week! So lovely to see the baby moving - it waved!

I’ve unfortunately been suffering with hyperemesis and was admitted to hospital this week, but my colleagues have been SO supportive it’s taken a real weight off my shoulders. I’m an NHS worker, so get major guilt for missing work and have been dragging myself in even though I’m vomiting 6 times in a morning - I got sent home yesterday and was sternly told not to return this weekend, even though it left the team short. Brought a little hormonal tear to my eye

Amichelle84 · 18/01/2020 08:50

Fab thread! I agree, I actually ended up deleting mumsnet for a bit as it was making me even more anxious.

I had a huge bleed Thirsday, had a scan Friday morning and little nugget was wriggling around and the heart beat was strong :)

One thing I keep saying to myself is I deserve to be excited by this moment in my life, I dont want to look back and I've not enjoyed it 100% (even the sickness).

mimmi91 · 18/01/2020 10:25

@Melbs6 telling mum felt so weird!! She was really surprised, I don't know why haha! I've been married for 18months, so it's not exactly strange :P But she was super positive and gave me a bunch of old-school pregnancy books that dated back to the 90s when I was born!! Will be fun to look through those and see what weird ideas they had about pregnancy then :P

@Chefwifelife yay you're having an early scan!! That will be so reassuring I'm sure! Let us know how it goes :D

@rainingoutsideagain I definitely can't wait to get a bump - even a small one!! I've already decided I'll be wearing tight clothes (at least in the beginning lol) just to show off. Thanks for the tip on the pregnancy massage, I'll be looking forward to that!!!

@mrs87 I'm a bit of an anxious wreck at the moment, but am still having moments each day where I feel pure joy. I'm sure the early scan will put your mind at ease!! I really want one now haha...

@Nelbert19 yayyyy congrats on passing the 12w milestone!! Must feel amazing!! Have you already told everyone, or will you start now? :)

@Amichelle84 we 100% deserve to be excited about this, no matter how early on in our pregnancies we are! I agree that we need to be able to look back on our pregnancies and have good memories of it!
I haven't had any nausea yet, but I'm weirdly looking forward to it?! I'm weird... (and I will regret saying this in a couple of weeks, I'm sure!!)

@mimmi91 I’ve already told everyone, couldn’t keep my mouth shut so thank god everything’s ok! Very happy to have reached 12 weeks - longest 3 months of my life!
