Hi all,

Do I need to apply for a Mat B1 certificate or does the midwife give me one? I'm sure the midwife told me and I didn't take it in...

Thanks

The midwife will give you one. I think it's around the 20 week mark. I had to ask mine though as she had forgotten. She had a pad of them there and then and just filled it in and gave it to me.

I had to ask for mine too and she left it behind reception at my surgery for me to collect the next day.

I seem to remember the midwife gives you this (was a while back now!) I think they do it once you are in your second trimester

I got mine at booking appointment at 9 weeks. Helped as I needed antisickness meds.

You have to ask usually for your MATB1 at your midwife appointment around 20 weeks, as your partner needs it before 25 weeks if he wants paternity leave, and you will need it for your maternity leave and payment.

If you don't see your midwife until later, just give her a call and she'll leave it for you usually at your GP, or will post it to you.

My midwife gave me mine at 24 week app (i think!)

I was also given one at hospital when I had my 20 week scan. The nurse doing my whooping cough jab just offered it to me.

LH1987 · 14/01/2020 21:59

Thanks all, I’ll wait till my 20 week scan and see if I get given one.

My midwife did it on the first appointment and I got it through the post a couple of weeks ago, I'm coming 16 weeks. Maybe ask your midwife.

think some people on here are mistaking the MATB1 for the certificate you get to get free prescriptions. You cant get MATB1 before you are 20 weeks.

In my region you need to request it from your GP and collect it from them

dementedpixie · 16/01/2020 21:55

You cant get MatB1 before 20 weeks. You can get a maternity exemption certificate once you find out you're pregnant. That's done through your gp/midwife
