NHS booking appointment change?

Hey ladies

I am 8 weeks today and saw my GP when I was 5 weeks for a referral. I never heard anything back from antenatal and chased up today with my GO. They noted that I was referred and that I just have to wait. However oddly I never recieved a booking appointment which is usually 10 weeks. She mention there’s now a change and the booking appointment will now take place during the 12 week scan so they do bloods, history, tests and 12 week scan on the same day. NHS website still states otherwise. Has anyone else experienced this? I know I’m relatively early but I travel a lot and need a midwife appointment at the very least to get booked in. I’m in the USA whilst I am 10-11 weeks and am panicking. Suffering from anxiety as well since it’s my first pregnancy .

Thanks

I don't see why it would make much difference doing it at 12 weeks rather than 10. Apart from blood tests, the booking in appointment is just loads of questionnaires so the answers to those arent going to change in 2 weeks.
If you're abroad at 10 to 11 weeks surely it's actually advantageous to have it at 12 weeks when you're back?

I had my booking in at my 12 week scan and it was fine

I'm having my booking in appointment tomorrow at 8 weeks. It's probably different in different areas, typical nhs!

I agree I think it’s an NHS budget programme. I live smack bang in the middle of central London soo presume this is why?

For someone asking why it’s an issue - it’s not, I was merely asking if other expectant mothers were in the same situation, evidently the overwhelming majority based on the forum still has a separate booking appointment. Some people know how to switch the charm on when pregnant ladies are full of anxiety and just asking a simple question...Hmm

It depends on area. In our area you don’t see the GP at all you just self refer to the midwife.

That's so strange! I live in Central London too (kings cross) and UCLH scheduled my booking appointment exactly at 8 weeks for me, and 12 weeks for my scan.. but I received my blood tests 48hours after my booking appointment. So even if you have your appointments both together, I'm sure it won't make too much of a difference in terms of receiving the results back for them x

I'm in Northern Ireland and our booking and 12 week scan is all the same appointment (a nice 3.5 hour wait in hospital!)

So an update - I’m now 9 weeks and have heard nothing. I have followed up and royal LONDON antenatal keep saying they never recieved my referal and to repeat this with my GP. I have done this twice. I’m now really worried since I really don’t think the Nhs are taking this seriously. I’m now going to have to make a complaint about it and still have yet to see a midwife. By the time I will be seen I’ll be 12 weeks or more (if they are bothered to respond! ) as I’m now out of country. This is ludicrous.

This happened with my first pregnancy. My GP never actually referred me even though they told me at my GP appt that they would. I got to about 8 weeks and called the EPU who told me to self-refer myself to the midwives which was a self-referral form that I downloaded off their NHS maternity website.

Maybe try that.

b0nnieN · 21/01/2020 19:05

My GP never referred me, they advised I needed to fill out a self referral form which you can find online.

That's the self referral form for royal London hospital if you needed it.

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 21/01/2020 19:10

I didnt go through my GP at all. I called the community midwives and self referred.

TBH my GP seemed wholly uninterested.

ChicaXS · 21/01/2020 19:23

Thanks ladies- I actually did the self referal today so hopefully I’ll get a response. It’s crazy how nonchalant they are.
