Cleaning baby furniture??

This seems like one of those ridiculous over the top first time mum questions but I'm going for it anyway.

I've washed all babies clothes in no bio blah blah blah. Now I have all these lovely clean clothes and a second hand dresser to put them in.

What do I clean the dresser with before putting the clothes in? And what do I clean the changing mat with? Etc etc. I assume there is some kind of baby safe disinfectant....?

Thank you!

I would use a milton solution

Just use warm water and washing up liquid to give it a wipe down Hmm

Changing mat id get a new one assuming it's a plastic one you've got. Then just wipe down after each change, again with warm water and washing up liquid. You don't need anything else.

I honestly wouldn’t worry about cleaning the baby’s furniture; only the outside of the clothes will touch the furniture and all kinds of things will touch their clothes. You can’t clean everything your baby and it’s clothes come into contact with and it wouldn’t be good for the baby to be in a completely sterile environment

Due to a variety of reasons very few of my DDs newborn clothes were washed and she was fine so I can’t say I really think of that as being crucial.

I always use Dettol surface cleaner.

Brianna83 · 13/01/2020 12:12

Thank you all. I have Dettol surface cleanser so will give it a quick wipe with that. The changing mats are plastic and new - I'll use Dettol on those too

Thanks again from a completely clueless first timer!

I would steam clean and use Milton/Dettol

I just got some anti bac surface wipes and give everything a once over.

Mumtobe87 · 13/01/2020 12:57

I used antibacterial spray, let it air dry for a day before puttin clothes in

ChocolateCoins19 · 13/01/2020 15:38

Antibac cleaner or flash.. Whatever I got.
I used flash for the crib as was. In loft from DD. obviously got a new mattress

If you have antibacterial stuff, give it a go.

But I guess warm water with soap can do.

If I buy something that's second hand I will use something antibacterial, as who knows what went in etc.

WineAt4pm · 14/01/2020 07:50

It's probably worth doing some research into antibac products before covering your house in them - there's more evidence appearing that they are bad for health, contribute to more superbugs and are bad for the environment. We purposely avoid all antibacterial products in our house.

EstebanTheMagnificent · 14/01/2020 10:11

Warm soapy water. Antibacterial products do more harm than good.

Mysocalledlifex · 14/01/2020 10:38

Soap & water is the best, i wouldnt use any kind of spray cleaner as u dont know whats it them.
