Hey looking for a tad of advice Im 31weeks and sleeping at night has now become a problem I'm up every hour I can't get comfy and my back is in a lot of pain I get very uncomfortable very easily and I'm now on my 4th day with no sleep the only place I can get comfortable is in the bath and obviously can't sleep in the bath all night has anyone got any advice or tips on what I can do to ease my discomfort or to sleep more than 30 min a night..

Thanks x

Ahh bless you.. unfortunately, very common & to be honest, there’s not a huge amount you can do! I’m 30 weeks & have been struggling the last couple weeks to get a decent sleep (plus I have a toddler who inevitably disturbs just as I finally do get to sleep, it’s a real joy having kids 😉)

Pillows? I have a pregnancy one but on work trips that I do, I just surround myself with all the pillows and towels to kinda prop myself up! Take paracetamol before bed? I do quite often & it does help. Hot water bottle on your back? Maybe go see your doctor is the pain is extreme? Might be worth a physio session to get some exercises to help or maybe google some.

The back end of pregnancy is exhausting & uncomfortable.. which is just great when you really want to be catching up on some sleep ready for a baby to keep you awake all night instead 🙈 Hope you can find a bit of comfort somehow!

I wish there was a solution but as PP said there's very little you can do 😣

A hot water bottle is my saviour and if my back/SPD pain is really bad I'll take paracetamol and that makes it easier to get to sleep but when you're waking up to pee every hour it is just an ongoing battle. Surround yourself with pillows as PP said

I've found if I just can't drop off I get out of bed and get a cuppa and sit somewhere else for a bit and then it's easier to get back into bed and get to sleep, but try not to do too much if you do get out of bed because you could be awake for hours then!

The last trimester I had the least sleep of my whole life. Felt like I was walking through treacle most days. A pregnancy pillow behind my back and between my knees helped the hip pain and I had 3 behind my head which helped the heartburn. Nothing stops the incessant need to wee sadly. I spent hours awake every night just awake. If that wasn’t hard enough all anyone bloody tells you is to sleep as much as you can as you’ll never sleep again once the baby’s there Angry Even if that was true it’s not like you can sleep enough to build up days worth to help down the line. Ridiculous advice. Once the baby’s there, simply not being pregnant will make you comfy enough to sleep.

Build a pillow fort to support your back, hips, bump, listen to something peaceful and meditative if you like that sort of thing. It makes being awake feel slightly less lonely and pointless. Have a bath before bed if being drowsy will help.

And try to remember this but will be over soon. I slept loads more with a newborn than while pregnant.
