Hi
My midwife has suggested i may need a ECV as my DS is breech and i am 36 weeks. I have my scan monday to confirm his position. I am in unsure whether i want this procedure. Has anyone got any experience with having it done or with refusing one?

My friend tried it. Didn’t work.

Personally after watching it I think it’s barbaric and would take a section any time over that.

I found it so incredibly painful I had to tell them to stop. The doctor was not happy when she had to book me in for a c section, but I'm really glad I stuck up for myself. I know others did not have the same experience as me and only found it uncomfortable.

I found it incredibly awful. I was doing anything to avoid a c section as I'd had 3 natural vaginal births.
It was worse than labour. And didn't work. The bruising to my tummy after was worse than the bruising I had with the eventual c section which was nowhere near as awful as I'd imagined.
I'd advise against it.

As a PP has said, it felt barbaric and it seemed like a battle between the consultant and my DD.
The consultant was most unhappy when I asked him to stop and refused to let him continue but I'm glad I did.

I refused one when ds1 was breech. My reasons, my mum had 3 attempts with my brother. The cord was round his neck holding him breech, they later realised. Also, a thread on Mumsnet at the time , where the poster had one, went home, and 12 hours later her baby was dead.

Not worth the risk imo. I had a planned c section.

Sparrowlegs248 · 11/01/2020 22:25

As for refusing, you can simply say "No. I don't want one. C section please and repeat. Firmly.

FloreanFortescue · 11/01/2020 22:28

Both my babies were turned, no issues, mild discomfort.

namechangenewness · 11/01/2020 22:30

I refused one. Anterior placenta and they still wanted to do it. Ridiculous. You still have time yet though, DD2 was turning up to 39 weeks.

I’ve been offered one and am going to refuse it. I’d rather have the planned C Section and miss out on the natural vaginal birth I had planned and be in pain and uncomfortable for longer myself than have my baby put at any risk. My midwife said theres only a 58% chance they work and the risks are absolutely awful to read about.
