I'm 8+4 and been suffering from nausea from about week 6 but it's really stepped up a gear this last few days! I can't seem to keep anything down (not even water).
Everything smells vile, the thought of most things is enough to make me retch. The only thing I've kept down over the last 48 hours are a few fizzy sweets!
I'm starving, knackered, worried the baby is getting no nutrition and concerned about dehydration.
I'm taking my pregnancy supplements but not sure how much is getting absorbed before I'm sick again.
Any advice? Any tips on what to try and eat? I've sent OH out for some dry salted crackers xx

I’m in the exact same boat, and am 8+6 so very similar dates too! I had my booking appointment yesterday and spoke to the midwife about it which made me feel better as my urine came back as clear. I’ve been surviving solely on rich tea biscuits, apples, grapes and ready salted crisps. A few times I’ve managed to stomach a fishfinger or a few chips also. I’m managing to take very small sips during the day but can’t take a lot of water in one go and most of the time my folic acid is probably being brought back up. Not the healthiest diet but that’s all I can manage and both my GP and midwife have said it’s okay for now but to monitor if it gets worse. Try thinking of a few easy plain foods such as toast and if you don’t feel sick at the thought, go for it.

Annafs · 11/01/2020 12:18

Also forgot to say try seeing the GP as they can prescribe anti sickness meds and check your urine. If your urine comes back with ketones you could be quite dehydrated so may need a drip or something x

OnlyYellowRoses · 11/01/2020 12:19

For me nothing other than strong anti sickness medication worked. Just don't wait until you get to hospital and on a drip to figure that out ☹️ if you can't keep fluids down then you need to go to the doctor

OlivejuiceU2 · 11/01/2020 12:47

Hi OP, I was going to say the same as @OnlyYellowRoses. Go to doctors, you don’t want to end in hospital. It’s not fun, I was so ill I was passing out and had to stay in overnight. I needed four bags of fluids. I’m 12 weeks now and my sickness is getting better so there is light at the end of the tunnel but please do ask for help. I’ve found cyclezine has helped me, other antisickness meds did nothing so might have to try out a few until you find the right one.
Good luck Flowers

Thanks so much for the replies! I'm currently in Turkey and not flying back till Tuesday night then got my first midwife appt on Wednesday morning.
I have been to see a doctor here and got anti sickness meds a couple of days ago but they don't seem to have made the slightest bit of difference.
It's concerning reading about hospitals and drips though so think I better make another appointment.
I'll be on my own flying home so don't want any issues xx

@sel2223 sounds like you may have the start of hyperemesis. There is a hyperemesis support page which can give you help and advice. If you cant even keep water down you need to get to a hospital asap for fluids and iv medication (I was on ondansatron and metoclopromide as well as 3 bags a fluid a time) to help. I was on this and in and out of hospital several times a week just to survive for months as tablet medication didn't even stop the vomiting only iv did and ended up on home visits and steroids and iv fluids at home as well so please get some help as soon as you can.
@LucindaE I'm sure can advise more as well.

Yaty · 11/01/2020 13:25

You sound same as me. Got to 7 weeks and couldn't keep anything down, couldn't move out of bed without being sick. I am on other medication and couldn't keep these down either. My GP was really understanding and has prescribed anti sickness tablets called prochloperazine. I can eat again and nausea is mostly gone and hoping to be back in work monday. It's horrible and I feel for you. I'd get myself back to a gp and ask for different meds as my GP did say the first ones you try might not work. Good luck!

sel2223 · 11/01/2020 15:49

@abbs1 oh no, I really hope not!!! I'm trying to take tiny sips of water every half hour and seem to be keeping it down so far..It's not much but it's a start

@Yaty thanks
I've got an appointment with gp tomorrow so hopefully can get some different meds which work better for me

Try the sickness bands! They helped me a lot! They press on pressure points and suppress nausea

MyCatScaresDogs · 11/01/2020 16:19

If you can’t keep water down, you definitely need to see someone. Glad you have an appointment.

sel2223 · 12/01/2020 11:00

Thank you. I've been given some different anti sickness meds today so hopefully they work! It's so difficult as I'm abroad at the moment so hoping I can just hold it together until I get home on Tuesday. The doctor I saw today didn't really get what I was saying so no urine test or anything like that, I felt like a time waster to be honest.

@sbd11 I'm going to order some....willing to try anything! I've also been recommended ginger tablets for sea sickness so going to get some of those too.

This is my first pregnancy so very hard to know what's normal or not but I'm currently on day 3 where I've spent the majority of time in bed - i'm sleeping so much, maybe 15 hours a day! 😔
I'm constantly nauseous and get dizzy whenever I sit or stand up so the only real relief I get is when I lie horizontal.
I'm currently throwing up about 3 times a day but it's just water and yellow bile as I'm not eating anything so nothing to bring up.
In between this, I'm.also having 2 or 3 very dark coloured loose watery stools each day (sorry TMI).
I'm managing 1 or 2 sips of water at a time but then have to lie still for half an hour or so to let the nausea pass and hope it stays down (it's working most of the time). I know I'm not getting anywhere near enough fluids like this but it's better than nothing! I'm sure i'm still dehydrated though as I've had a splitting headache for days and I'm only urinating once a day and it's really dark.
Food wise, I've had a couple of fizzy sweets and some dry salted crackers. Anything else....toast, fruit, crisps etc has made me throw up at the very thought of it.
My sense of smell is unbelievable. I'm gagging and wretching at everything.

Is this normal for the first trimester? Please tell me it gets better xx

@Beatrice2407 excuse me? I have absolutely no idea what you're on about and no fight in me today to respond as I normally would to a comment like that!
I'm 37 by the way.

Being hungry can and probably will make the nausea even worse. I used to just sit and eat rice crispies, it was all I could stomach. I also sucked on mints all day long which helped.

sel2223 · 12/01/2020 12:40

@urkiddingright thank you. Hunger is definitely not helping....I am starving and getting hunger pains but as soon as I start thinking about what to eat, I get waves of nausea and can't face any of it. It's just awful.
I will keep trying. I know I need to eat x

OP posts:
SuddenArborealStop · 12/01/2020 12:47

Eating is less important than drinking at the moment, try an ice pop maybe until the drugs kick in. The drugs are great once you find ones that work for you

CosmoK · 12/01/2020 12:50

I was told to try berocca or isotonic drinks like lucosade sport.

I feel for you. It's bloody awful.

Nowisthemonthofmaying · 12/01/2020 13:03

Try sipping on Coke or ginger tea - I find it easier to get down than plain water. You could also try ice lollies? Fruit ones? If your urine is dark that's a sign that you're very dehydrated so you do need to try and drink more.

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 12/01/2020 13:37

@sel2223 you definitely need to see a doctor. You sound really dehydrated. Nausea and some vomiting is normal but has others have said it sounds like you have hyperemeses ( can’t spell it!). You need fluids to be replaced so if I was you I would call GP or 111 ASAP

sel2223 · 12/01/2020 13:41

Thanks everyone for the advice. I'm overseas at the moment but fly back on Tuesday so really trying to hold out till then as got midwife appointment Wednesday morning any way.

I've sent OH to get some ice pops/fruit lollies and full day coke.

Just 2 more days!!
