Intense cramping at 5 weeks

Hi all,

I wondering if someone could let me know if this is normal. I woke up this morning with really quite intense cramping, almost what I would imagine a contraction feeling like . I went to the loo and there's no blood at all. It lasted for about 10-15 minutes and now it seems to have gone.

I know everything is meant to stretch down there which can cause discomfort, but also worried about it being the start of a miscarriage.

Has anyone else experienced this type of intense cramping in early pregnancy? I will be 5 weeks tomorrow.

Thank you xxxx

Yes! I had something very similar with my first. It was very scary and I also thought it was the beginning of a miscarriage at the time, but it wasn’t. Try not to worry - easier said than done, I know...

@CanAnyMother thank you so much for your message. It is my first pregnancy and it's so nerve wracking! It takes so bloody long to get pregnant and then I'm just petrified of something now happening. It's like an awful game of snakes and ladders 🙈 xx

I had exactly this with my first pregnancy at this stage. The pain was horrendous and would wake me. I’d feel sick with it. I had an early scan because I was worried it was ectopic. It wasn’t. I now have a healthy daughter x

Hi, hope you are feeling better Flowers I had the same in my second pregnancy and also thought it was ectopic so had an early scan. The scan showed up some extra fluid which can be an indicator of superfetation, so they scanned me again ten days later to check. There was still only one baby, I think my body just got confused and produced extra fluid for some reason, which disappeared during that ten days. If I remember correctly the pain didn’t last more than a day or so. X

Yup 🙋🏻‍♀️
I had this about 5 weeks. Woke me in a sweat and I ran to loo thinking miscarriage. I was trying to be sick and it lasted around 10mins.
Turned out at the scan to be a cyst. I'd definitely speak to your doctor tho make them aware as I was always worried about ectopic. Especially if one sided which mine was. X

@aNonnyMouse1511 @Liande @cloclo92 thank you all for your experiences. I've had no more cramping since yesterday. I've got an appointment with my GP on Friday to then book in an early scan the following week xx

I had it too, I believe it’s implantation cramps. I had two missed miscarriages with no cramping or bleeding at all but have had successful pregnancies with cramping and even spotting.

Hi OP, I'm 8+6 and I'm getting these kinds of cramps too. I've had four of them, at 5 weeks, 5+6, 7+3 and 8+3. No bleeding, just agonising pain which makes me double over/writhe around in discomfort! When I had the third one I went to the docs and they referred me for an early scan to check it's not ectopic but all was fine, and I actually had another one that evening! Mine normally happen at night when I'm asleep and it wakes me up, but they pass after 10-15 mins and I always seem to need the loo too 💩 (sorry tmi). The docs thinks possibly bowel related and caused by the pregnancy and my midwife said she thinks it's just going to be one of those things I get. But she said to keep an eye on them and go to the GP if they get worse so I will do if they get more regular or I get any bleeding. I'd say if it happens again and you're worried definitely go to the doctor, I felt a bit stupid when I went but she took me really seriously and having the scan really reassured me x
