Is it worth the hype?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
HotDogGuy · 10/01/2020 19:30

Yes. I wasn’t aware of them when my eldest was a baby but it’s so much easier with the second. Well worth the money

buddhababy2019 · 10/01/2020 19:50

I was considering them but then midwife said our hospital doesn't advocate them as there's concerns about mould build up in the pipes ☹️

CaramelWaferAndTea · 10/01/2020 19:51

It's worth all the hype. You have to do regular wash cycles but it's still a million times less faff. Look at the Amazon reviews!

dingdongmer · 10/01/2020 19:52

Highly recommend it

user1493413286 · 10/01/2020 19:53

Definitely recommend

WhyArePiratesCalledPirates · 10/01/2020 19:55

Definitely.
And you can pick the up for a tenner on fb. Absolutely worth it.
But do clean them and change filters and all that.

WhatALearningCurve · 10/01/2020 19:55

The mould scare was due to people using non tommee tippee flitters in them. As long as you use the right filters there shouldn't be any issues

eggsandsoldiers · 10/01/2020 19:56

I think the mould problems were with the older model. Do a clean cycle once a month and it's fine. Definitely recommend here, been using for 4 months now since DD was newborn, it's great.

mynameiscalypso · 10/01/2020 19:58

You'd have to prise mine out of my cold dead hands.

Newmumma83 · 10/01/2020 19:59

Love it used mine for a year now ... never failed me and no tummy bugs with little one

I do a clean cycle every two weeks but only change filter when told
If we go away and Tommie tippee not used for 1 week will change filter and clean.

Love it though

iusedtoloveopalfruits1 · 10/01/2020 20:03

I second mynameiscalypso! I really miss it when out or at my friends house. Running a bottle under a cold tap with a screaming baby is awful

TriangleBingoBongo · 10/01/2020 20:06

Yes my baby was exclusively breast fed until 6 months, one bottle a day 6-7 and then weaned onto formula by 8.5 months. Got the machine at 7 months just for one bottle a day and really valued it then. Mine was second hand, so with a new filter was £30. You can pick them up really cheaply on gumtree/facebook.

PrayingandHoping · 10/01/2020 20:07

Mines coming up 3 months old. I do the regular clean cycles and open up the back to check the pipes. So far totally clean

Another "issue" people have with them is was the hot shot hot enough to sterilise the formula. I stuck a probe in it and it was nearly 80degrees. So well over the 70 degrees

Love mine

Dandelion1993 · 10/01/2020 20:08

Get a Baby Brezza one instead. It also mixes the right amount of formula in for you.

Much easier than loosing count.

SilentAlarm · 10/01/2020 20:09

I love mine. My HV advised against using one but every midwife I’ve asked has rolled their eyes and told me that as long as you’re using the right filters/changing them and doing the clean cycle as per instructions they’re fine.

thunderthighsohwoe · 10/01/2020 20:13

Bloody marvellous inventions. Actually took ours with us in the car on a long weekend in Wales because we couldn’t bear the idea of faffing with kettles etc.

Florencenotflo · 10/01/2020 20:26

Yep, best £50 I spent. We got ours in the Asda baby event. Run regular cleaning cycles knit and only use the branded filters, not cheaper alternatives and it's great.

My only gripe is that the basic model (I don't know if the day/night model is different) the smallest feed you can prepare is 4oz. Which for the early days is just too much. For a good month Dd was only taking 2oz at a time, gradually working up to 3oz. By 4-5 weeks she would often finish most of a 4oz feed. But I felt there was a lot of formula wasted in the early days.

polkadotpixie · 10/01/2020 20:32

Fabulous creation. I wouldn't have given mine up for anything when DS was on forrmula

Just ensure you change the filter and run the cleaning cycle regularly and they are perfectly safe. All the talk of the hotshot not being hot enough is rubbish, it's well over 70C (like a PP, I tested it)

Amanduh · 10/01/2020 20:43

Absolutely worth everything. I’ve got one from last pregnancy but going to get a second for upstairs! They are amazing and my midwife agrees!

okokokthen · 10/01/2020 21:17

They build loads of mould up in the pipes so I wouldn't bother. People have only noticed the mould once taking them apart. I personally think it's not worth the risk.
