Twins!! Anyone else due this summer?

Hi all, we've just been told we're having MCDA twins in July, currently 12+4 DD 20th July. This has come as a shock since a private scan on Tuesday following a bleed told us we were expecting 1 baby (11+3) Hmm. Is anyone else in a similar boat and due around the same time?x

Congrats!! This is amazing news!

So you had a scan at 11 weeks and they only saw 1 baby? Did they do a thorough scan? I was told I was having twins but it was a mistake 🙁 I still hold onto hope that when they do a scan at 12 weeks the other will reappear x

Kiki275 · 10/01/2020 16:29

@Beau2020 I'll keep everything crossed for you. I didn't think it was thorough at the time, but wasn't too bothered as we saw what we wanted to which was a beating heart and healthy baby. No sign of the bleed being associated with the baby. I was a bit Hmm about the date but wasn't worried as this NHS scan today was booked and only 3 days later.x

I am 33+4 with MCDA twins. Should only have 3weeks left before they are delivered! I cant wait to meet them now.

You will be closely monitored with scans every 2 weeks from around 18weeks onwards, which I found really reassuring and meant that different family members got to come with me and see the scans. You will become a pro on what you are seeing on the scans and what everything means.

Are these your first babies? These are mine and whilst the pregnancy hasnt been 'easy' i wouldnt change it for the world and cant wait for my girls to arrive now.

I found lots of twin instagram and youtube accounts which give really helpful advice etc.

Kiki275 · 10/01/2020 17:09

@Wishing56 thank you and good luck! We already have a 16 month old DS so thought a 2nd baby wouldn't be a big transition... a 3rd though, hmmm. Just throws so many questions in the air about nursery fees and whether we can afford for me to return to work after maternity. We're going to need to do some serious sums x

Me! We found out at a private early scan at 7-ish weeks. I am still not convinced it wasn't a prank to be honest (I genuinely asked the sonographer 'is this a joke?' and 'are you sure?') but the picture is pretty clear and there were definitely two tiny lil heartbeats. The scan dated me for 26th July due date.

This is our first (and only) so it's a bit overwhelming. I'd only planned for one! I'm also in the 'having to do serious sums' stage. Everyone acts like it's such a huge blessing but I'm our main earner so even things like the real likelihood of having to start mat leave earlier than planned are logistically difficult :( I've spent a good few weeks feeling like a lot of the joy and excitement of planning for baby have been stolen from me in all honesty, it's been such a huge shock. It's gradually starting to sink in a bit now though. I've got my 12 week scan on Thursday this week so I'm looking forward to having it re-asserted that this is actually happening and finding out what kind of twins we're having.

Good luck to all you other twin mums-to-be out there. I'm sure we will smash it whatever happens. Star

@thethirdbar it's a mega blow isn't it? I'm fortunate that I have great support from my DH's family and they will help in any way to ensure I can justify going back to work, as I need that life away from home.
I've already dropped to a 4 day working week, which helps in many ways as it's one day less childcare. When everything has sunk in, start approaching nurseries and childminders and see if they do sibling discounts. I'm going to chat to DS's tomorrow. Once I've a clear idea of outgoings I'll be much happier x

We're expecting twins (own sac and own placenta) on 5th July - sometime in June more likely. We already have an 18 month old daughter.

It was such a shock for me finding out at an early scan and has been a rollercoaster of emotions since. We had our first appointment with a consultant today to discuss the care we'll have and the birth options. Started to feel a lot more real!

Kiki275 · 13/01/2020 22:00

@BlueRaincoat89 Oh wow! Birth options already? I bet that makes it scarily real so soon. We've got 3 weeks now to adjust before our next scan and the first meeting with the doctor. 3 weeks in which I can run through every possible scenario a dozen times over daily x

@Kiki275 the consultant told us that she'd only touch on birth options but then all of our questions were about this so it took up most of the appointment! She recommended a natural birth if twin 1 is head down. For some reason I thought they'd suggest a section with twins. Long way off knowing what position they'll be in though. How have you been feeling?

Kiki275 · 14/01/2020 13:47

I'm feeling a lot better now the 1st trimester is coming to an end. Definitely adjusting to the idea of twins now too. My options might be slightly different as I had an EMCS last time after an induction which never got past 4cm. If you would prefer an ELCS, definitely request one, they shouldn't refuse.🤞 I still get the natural delivery. How about you? @BlueRaincoat89 x

@Kiki275 hi I’m due July but only with one but I have 5 year old twins and it was pretty much correct lol don’t worry you get plenty of scans to keep an eye on them and there are plenty of groups on fb for twins and stuff. My came at 36 weeks so I was very lucky. Good luck and congrats

BlueRaincoat89 · 14/01/2020 15:09

@Kiki275 I'm happy to try for a natural birth but I'm also open to a C section - don't want to get my hopes up for a natural and then find out twin 1 is breech. I had a natural with my daughter but it was by no means a magical experience and I had a tough recovery. They did say I can opt for an ELCS so that's good if I decide on that.

I'm much better now I'm in the 2nd trimester too. Had a lot of nausea and headaches in the 1st. I've definitely come round to the idea of twins too - it'll be hard in the beginning but having 3 kids so close in age will be great for them in the long run.

Kiki275 · 14/01/2020 17:46

@Bexx19 thanks! Good luck with your one, I'm sure you'll have lovely twin helpers keen to give you a hand with every nappy etc x

@BlueRaincoat89 we're very similar with age gaps. Have you spoken to nursery yet? I've asked for an approximation of costs once DS gets his 30 hours, just so I can start planning (and ask for a pay rise 🤦‍♀️) x

@Kiki275 DD isn't in nursery - I work part time and we have a lot of family around who help out when I'm working. Not sure they'd be willing to look after 3 of them though so I think nursery will be on the agenda at some point!
