Endometriosis pain in pregnancy?

Has anyone had this? I had a very brief conversation at my booking appointment and wished I'd asked more questions. She suggested you can have endo pain in pregnancy.

I've had a lot of cramping throughout but so far baby is fine. I'm 11+3 today.

My pain today is left sided and feels like I get on my period so I'm wondering if you really can still have the effects of endo what pregnant?

I've not found anything definitive by googling so wonder if anyone has any experience?

I'm not overly worried as I've had two scans so far and everything is ok. I've got my 12 weeks scan next Thursday.

I'm trying to keep my anxiety levels down after a mc last year but little bean seems to be doing ok 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

Hopeful bump (in every sense of the word!)

I can't help on the endo front.
But I'm 11 + 1 and been having mild cramps the last couple of days.
I'm hoping it's just growing/stretching pains. X

OneTooManyBathtimes · 10/01/2020 15:22

Don't know about endo, but I was still getting mittelschmerz during my pregnancies. Or at least the pains were still happening. I obvioisly wasnt releasing eggs at the time.

ConfidingFish · 10/01/2020 15:30

Yes I still had endo pains in pregnancy. Definitely cramping in the early stages as everything inside changes. Also later in the pregnancy painn from all the scar tissue pulling especially when trying to sleep on my side with the weight of my belly at later stages so I slept with a wedge pillow under my bump.

I don't know what treatment you have had for the endo I went through a chemical menopause and they kept me on those drugs for 6 months to starve the endo deposits of hormones and provide me with relief from the pain.

So they believe it takes a while for that to take effect. The most worrying time for you has passed (eptopic pregancy) and congratulations on your pregnancy Flowers

I did wonder if our bodies maybe think it's still having cycles?!

@ConfidingFish ah thanks for your input. I'm already in agony at night with my hips. Wonder if it's connected in some way.

I had a lap nearly a year ago to laser stage 3 endo and do some 'unsticking' of my insides Confused

It does make sense now I think about it x

The hips thing could just be a part of pregnancy but you'll never know. I found pregnancy both times to be painful but I was glad I was able to just get pregnant and it was less painful than endo.

I think the combination of pregnancy and having endometriosis makes you super aware of your body, every twinge, every throb. I just tried to stay positive and marvel at the fact my body could carry a baby. Even my gynae was surprised Grin

ConfidingFish · 10/01/2020 17:53

Am multi tasking cooking dinner &forgot to @ you. My babies are now almost 17 and almost 14. I am relatively pain free on no meds but have chronic fatigue.

Thanks so much for your replies. You've really made me feel better! So glad you had two healthy pregnancies 😊
I thought it was me being over the top but I'm glad you said too about being hyper aware of all twinges and pains etc!
Here's hoping it all goes well for the rest of my pregnancy 🙏🏻

I think for most people any twinge or pain or weird feeling is just the pregnancy, when you have endo or fibroids you then wonder if it is that instead. It is completely natural to worry when pregnant about everything.

I just like to think that women's bodies have been doing this for thousands of years without medical people being able to see inside us. I trusted my body knew what to do and just took each day as it came.

I hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well.

I hope you are feeling better Flowers

It could be the stretching is aggregating internal scar tissue from your previous lap? I had about 9 laps for recurring endo prior to my first pregnancy, it’s a horrid condition Sad I had two pregnancies close together (children are 18m apart) and thankfully my endo never returned. X

squirrelnutkins1 · 11/01/2020 22:53

Thank you. You have a very chilled, calming influence! Here's hoping my body does its job this time round!! @ConfidingFish

I'm feeling better today thanks. The pain yesterday was really bad but I just kept telling myself it's to one side, not where baby is and I know it's not ectopic so trying to be calm and positive!
Sorry you've had so many laps! I've had two. After my second I honestly felt like I'd had a personality transplant cus I wasn't in pain in the time!!! You don't realise how much pain affects you cus you just have to get on with life but when it's gone you feel so much better, like a more chilled person!!
So pleased you had two successful pregnancies 😊 @Liande

I've had thorough excision of endo but the symptoms haven't completely disappeared. Think I have some endo involvement or scar tissue on my bowel / colon (left sided), and it's causing me some pain made worse by the trapped wind, constipation, slower bowels etc in pregnancy. I know from the Endometriosis UK forum that some people with endo can have quite severe pelvic pain throughout pregnancy but I hope it's quite rare!

Minniemee · 12/01/2020 04:27

@squirrelnutkins1 I'm right there with you with the endo pains! I'm almost 10 weeks now and my right hand side has been agony at times! Also my hips have given me a bit of trouble and if I get constipated it feels like everything is stuck together when I go to the loo and pulls on my ovaries etc! (Had surgery in May for endo on my ovary, bladder and bowel) . I had an early scan because of the right sided pain (thought possible eptopic) but bean was in the right place and the nurse told me that with ladies who have had surgery for endo the scar tissue can get pulled as things grow causing pain! So it sounds like things are only going to get stretchier in there, yay ConfusedGrin

squirrelnutkins1 · 12/01/2020 13:06

I can't tell you how much relief these stories are giving me. It's hard when you've had a loss to keep positive so hopefully the pains are ok and just down to endo 🙏🏻

My endo was very similar, worse on the left and things stuck to things they shouldn't be, Fallopian tube swollen, along with a cyst just to finish things off 🙈

The trapped wind is terrible and painful!

Minniemee · 12/01/2020 15:26

@squirrelnutkins1 oh the wind and bloating!! SadBlush isn't it just horrendous!

The midwife did say one thing however - we are very quick to notice all pains in our stomach area and just put them down to endo because we are so in tune with our bodies and are so used to pain, but to never assume the pain is just endo and not anything to do with baby, so if anything seems a little out of the norm to get it checked out no matter how many times you end up seeing someone!

I have such problems with endo pains when I push to open my bowels that I'm considering an elective c-section as I'm worried senseless about the pain of all the scar tissue etc pulling when trying to push little one out! A number 2 is painful enough (sorry tmi) Am I being over dramatic? I just don't know!

squirrelnutkins1 · 12/01/2020 17:02

@Minniemee
yep! DH is getting a bit grossed out by it now 🙈
I've got my 12 week scan on thurs so I might ask if they can look at my left ovary while they're there.
I can't blame you for that thought!! Worth chatting to your midwife about it closer to the time. They say your muscles relax don't they so maybe in a few months things down there might ease up? All a guessing game to me!

All was great with my scan 🥳🥳🥳

@squirrelnutkins1 what amazing news!! I'm so happy for you Grin now you can get excited and start planning! Mine is on the 27th so still a while to wait. How are your pains?

squirrelnutkins1 · 16/01/2020 12:20

@Minniemee thank you 😊 they're better actually. More like trapped wind pain on and off now. The joys! It was jumping and flipping and wriggling so much!! So amazing!
Eek, it'll fly by I'm sure 😊😊😊 let me know how you go x

Hi @squirrelnutkins1

I know this is an old thread but im curious to know how your labour was with your endo? I have stage 4 endo and im 17 weeks pregnant with a baby boy, ive been having some niggling sharp stretching pains that i think is due to scarring and wanted to know if it got worse and if you gave birth naturally ok or had a c section? TIA x

squirrelnutkins1 · 21/01/2021 01:02

@Lexi21 congrats!! The pains got less as time went on. Sometimes it can be ligament pain. I remember around 21 weeks I had awful pain where I almost couldn't walk. Def get checked if you feel concerned tho. It's always the right thing to seek advice if you're worried.
I had an emergency c section in the end unfortunately.
