Hi everyone,

I've seen a few threads about early scans and what to expect so thought I would share my 2 scan photos for comparison.

The one on the left was an internal scan at 6+1. We also got to hear the heartbeat which was 120bpm.

The one on the right was an abdominal scan at 8+2 (today). We heard the heart beat again and it was 175bpm.

We're in Turkey and you get a lot more scans here than you do in the UK!

@Pretendbookworm the highest risk of miscarriage is in the first 6 weeks, this then drops slightly with each passing week up to 12/13 weeks when the % drops dramatically. Early scans can show developmental issues and MMC, which I personally would prefer to know about sooner rather than later.
Hearing a heartbeat offers no guarantees but it does provide reassurance and there is proven to be less chance of MC after hearing it (I said less chance, not no chance)
The research you mention is from studies around the world and most other developed countries with the same research and medical expertise offer more scans than the UK. I definitely think funding is a major factor here. The NHS is amazing but it's not the be all and end all.

I feel like we could go round in circles forever with this so maybe we should just agree to disagree as we are clearly on different pages lol x

I've been swept up in a debate about early scans which I definitely didn't want 🙈🤣
Ladies, just choose what's right for you x

@sel2223 I agree! Not only is it lack of funding but some people exploit the NHS so they can get an early scan anyway. So if people choose to pay for a private scan out of their own choice and money, then who is anyone to tell them that's wrong? Theres absolutely no conclusive research that suggests ultrasounds have caused harm to a baby so I really don't think we need to turn our noses up at mothers who choose to pay for private scans. It doesn't affect anyone else x

@sel2223 you really did try and not debate dear love you lol I always did wonder why people are so opinionated about early scans when really it's each to their own Grin
