Hi ladies hope your all well!
I’m currently 40+3 and booked in for induction on the 18th.
Obviously I know she could come before this but I’ve had absolutely no signs at all, I’m quite uncomfortable but still able to carry on with everyday activities I just wanted to hear some induction experiences because I feel like this may be what it comes down to for me!!

Thanks in advance xx

I had growth scans fortnightly and she was consistently below the tenth centile so I was induced at 37+4.
I was 1cm with a difficult posterior cervix when they put the first pessary in. 6 hours later and no developments I had another pessary inserted. Used this time to bounce loads on the ball and walk laps of the hospital grounds. Felt very slight cramps at this stage not painful.
After 6 hours they were able to break my waters, I was 3cm at this point.
All hell broke loose and baby was born 2.5 hours later. As soon as I stood up after my waters broke the pains were incredible she must have just needed that to happen to come down. No time for anything except gas and air.
All in all a quick positive induction. I needed an episiotomy and she was 5lb 3oz but I've healed amazingly and she's gonna be 6 months old next week.

I responded to the first pessary. Was told pessary contractions would be like period and they definitely were but as I have painful periods I couldn’t differentiate between the pessary contractions and real labour. I became 5cm dilated really quickly (first I knew about it was my waters breaking!), at which point I got an epidural to try and slow things down. I pushed out my DC roughly 12 hours from the moment I got my first pessary. So it can happen really quickly too!

I had to have 4 pessaries before they could break my waters which was annoying because it meant I was in hospital for a while. However, once they did break them my DS was born in under three hours. The contractions pains were manageable mostly and I asked for a epidural when they got bad but it was too late and I was pushing shortly afterwards. He was delivered on just gas and air and I didn’t need any stitches despite him being 4.3kg.

It was intense but overall better than when I had my DD (who wasn’t induced) as i was in labour for 27 hours and was away with the fairies on pethidine.

I had to be induced a week early due to pre eclampsia. The used the pessary and I reacted to it pretty quickly. I was in agony before I knew it. First child so no idea what to expect. It was so quick nurses didn’t take me seriously when I called then in until they saw that I was having contractions like ever minute or two. I was 7cm dilated. Did it with gas an air . My little munchkin had her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck so I didn’t get much time to push and I had to have a episiotomy. Just remember is being super fast and intense. Labour was a total of four hours I think.

I had a pessary about 1pm-ish and then had a 3.5 hour labour 4.30-8pm. My waters had gone though. No drip needed and managed with a tens machine and a bit of gas and air.

3 attempts at induction and a sweep (or possibly 2, can't remember, bit of a blur) which didn't work. They then broke my waters which for me was more painful than the actual labour (I had no pain relief when they did it and I wasn't dilated at all at that point so it was excruciating. I cried when they did it, but didn't shed a tear during labour). If they want to break yours before you are dilated, I'd suggest asking for gas & air/pain relief beforehand if you can).

Waters were broken about 5pm, fully dilated by about 7pm, baby arrived just before midnight (40 weeks exactly). Gas & air & 2 paracetamol. Just under 6lbs.

Remember you can have gas and air for examinations and pessary insertions, you don't have to just grit your teeth (but they probably won't offer it, you'll have to ask). If you think you would like an epidural I thoroughly recommend getting it in place before they break your waters, if they have to do that, it meant I was able to almost enjoy the pushing and delivery phase! I was pleasantly surprised how quickly I recovered as well.
