At booking in appointment midwife wrote down her mobile and the days of the week she works

I’m now 20 weeks and have tried contacting her once at 17 weeks and once this week due to concerns with my 20 weeks scan I wanted to talk through

I haven’t received any call or message back either time

Is it normal to not be able to contact midwife?

I’ve spoken to my GP practise who have booked me in for an appointment next week which is the earliest I could be seen by a midwife and said if it was an urgent matter to go to triage unit at the hospital.

Il also consultant led but I have no name or contact details for the consultant on any of my notes

You should be able to contact someone on her team, even if it isn’t your named midwife. Did you have a 16 week appointment? Do you know the name of her team? If you know anyone locally who has recently been under the same team (or could post on a local Facebook parents’ group) then someone may have a number for them.

I would suggest calling your hospital and asking for the Community Midwife team. They will be able to check the number you've been given and provide you with alternative contact details.

Mine only works 1 day a week.. Rest she's teaching so her phone is off.
I just call the community number or day unit for advise or worries

Call the hospital and explain you cant get hold of your midwife, when I had pain and bleeding they were very good after I explained the midwife said she only works mondays and Tuesdays they were more than happy to see me in the hospital. Everywhere is different, they may just refer you to a different midwife but the most important thing is seeing someone and putting your worries to rest

The midwife mobile thing is a red herring - it’s more like a voicemail service that they will pick up when in work than a contact number, in my experience. It’s good for general questions, no good at all for urgent/live situations. I would have thought you would have been contacted but if it’s a non urgent thing it might just be on her list for your next appointment. It’s also been Christmas so she might have had time off/been working differently, etc. If it’s an urgent issue then at this gestation you’re better off phoning the community midwife team and talking to them

I have never been given a contact number for a midwife.

I am also consultant led but have never actually met my consultant (i am 33weeks) and just see any registrar/doctor on duty at my antenatal clinic.

If i have any concerns I just called the community midwife team. My hospital notes list the number on first page. Perhaps give them a call.

Yup! I didn't actually meet my midwife until my 36 week check up because she's constantly on holiday, or got cover whilst she does something else. Really bugs me, she had no idea that I'd be diagnosed with hyperemesis and placenta previa, hows she meant to care for me/us?

The good news is, now that you're past 20 weeks you'll be able to contact triage. There's always someone there.

Isn't there a general number for the midwifery team? There is for mine. There's also the option to call triage, early pregnancy unit and maternity day unit.
Might be worth calling triage if you're worried about something
