Booking in appointment with midwife

Wonder if anyone can help me please - I have just booked my first midwife appointment at my GP surgery. They have given me an appointment for 3 weeks today. I will be 10+6 by then - I thought the booking in appointment should be done by ten weeks? I did query this with the receptionist but she just said she’d make a note of it for the midwife. Is it a problem if the appointment happens after ten weeks? Aren’t there tests that need to be done before ten weeks? I’m already pretty anxious about this pregnancy following two MC last year and am now worrying I’ll miss something important! Thank you x

I think it'll be fine, my midwife couldn't take my bloods at my booking appointment and it could wait until my dating scan which was 11+4!

I’ve had mine this morning and I’m 11+1 - my first scan is in 2 weeks so 13+1. All screening tests etc can be done up to 14 weeks so you won’t miss anything 😊
Hope your appointment goes well! X

Ok thank you ladies, that’s reassuring to hear! Last time the midwife didn’t take my blood at the surgery and I had to go to the hospital the following week to have it done, it it’s a walk in department so I suppose I could go and do that straight after my appointment in three weeks.

Thalassemia screening (if you want it) needs to be done by 10 weeks, and my GP wasnt aware. Explain the situation and ask your GP to refer you for bloods if you're concerned.

I think the NHS says the appointment should be by 10 weeks but not sure if that is the start or the end of 10 weeks. I wouldn't worry about it too much. Ive just checked my notes and they check blood pressure and urine, but it's the same urine test they do at every appointment so I don't think it's time dependent. They also took bloods, I think to test for things like HIV, hepatitis. They ask a lot of questions and give you advice about diet and you can find that info easily online. They'll also check your bmi. They are mainly looking for things that might suggest you need more input or consultant care. It's the tests that go along with the 12 week scan that are time dependent in that you have to do them by a certain point (I think) . Perhaps you could contact GP or ask for midwifes contact details to clarify how you'll get a scan date. I rang the midwife a couple of times before the booking appointment to ask questions like this.

I'm sure it's fine tho after :)
