Hello!

Today I am 26 weeks pregnant and have been diagnosed with PGP by my midwife. I have been in pain for the last 2 weeks and I am feeling quite down about it. How has everyone coped with it?
It makes me feel really down... and limited. I was overweight at the start of my pregnancy and cannot help but to feel guilty now that I might have done this to myself.

In need of some emotional support...

Anyone can get it overweight or not so please don’t put yourself down like that!

Have you been referred for physio? I highly recommend it! I was referred and have only needed 1 apt so far, they gave me a deep tissue massage and some exercises and now I can actually walk/potter about shops etc won’t be going on any hikes anytime soon

Hugs though, it is shit and I felt the same, hopefully with some proper treatment rather than just the guidance (swivel out of the car, off the bed, don’t put weight on one leg etc) you can start to feel better mentally and physically! X

Oh my god OP, what a coincidence. I’m 21 weeks today and have just literally been struck down this afternoon with such bad groin/pubic bone pain... A quick google and text to a Dr friend sounds like ligament/joint pain is normal enough but could stray into PGP/SPD (although obvs not trying to diagnose myself..!)
It so sore to walk / shift my weight on my groin..

Sorry you’re struggling, I’m sure it’s really depressing being limited/restricted like that.

If mine is still bad tomorrow I’m going to give my midwife a call.

Don’t be sore on yourself. It can impact anyone. Just bad luck. Have you been referred for physio or anything?

Hiya,
Totally feel your pain. I am 35 weeks and been suffering with pgp since 20 weeks. I am now off work because I cannot walk without crutches or drive without pain. Not that that will happen to you!!
Sorry to say it's never really improved for me. I have good days and bad days and I have tried everything! However, I do have some tips that have given me some temporary relief...

-seeing an osteopath. Feel great straight afterwards but it's important that you see them regularly and don't overdo it after appointments because then you just end up worse than before. It takes a long time to recover if you push it.

  • gentle yoga stretching
  • massages - from partner or progressional. This doesn't help mobility as such but it's just nice when everything is a bit sore and you feel down!
-warm bath immediately followed by two ice packs - one on pubic bone and the other on lower back. - this really gives some comfort and actually means my mobility the next day is a bit better!
  • sitting on a birthing ball in evenings
  • rest rest rest. No walking further than you have to, no shopping, no being on your feet for too long, no overdoing it. Even when you feel better just take it easy. As I said before it will come back worse and all you can really do is manage it by not flaring up the pain.
  • and then an old favourite... always lying on your side with a pillow in between your legs! I'm sure you've heard that one already. Sleeping this way will be more comfy.

Hopefully some of that is helpful. PGP is just awful and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. It's mentally very difficult, I can't wait to get my body and mobility back now. Will be worth it in the end of course.

Xx

I had pgp while pregnant with DD. it has nothing to do with size. So please don't ever feel guilty! I'm short and a size 6 and had crippling pgp. Unfortunately mine didn't improve and got worse the further along I got. By 40+ weeks i literally could not move unless I really needed too. That isnt to say that will happen to you. A lot of people find that physio helped them a lot. Stay as comfy as you can (having your leg over a pillow or bunched up duvet in bed works wonders too) and don't push your body, that can make it that bit worse, at least it did with me. Mine went as soon as I had DD. It was amazing to feel like myself again! It will be all worth it in the end though! Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope your pgp/SPD gets better X

Hi @SheyxxAl, I'm going to lurk here in the back boycotting your thread....

Last Saturday I started at 17 weeks and get like someone had kicked my full pelt in my nun. It didn't go on Sunday and by Monday it was really painful. I rang the midwife and she thinks it could be SPD Confused. I ordered myself a pelvic band from amazon which has massively helped but waiting I the physio now and not sure what else I can do. Just signed up for a yoga course too grrrrr!!!

So yea lurking in the back for hints and tips.....

Felt not get oops

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/01/2020 17:22

Hi! Please dont blame yourself for it and think its because your over weight. Ive got SPD and am not over-weight. Where I live you automatically get referred to a womans health physio if you have it and it hasnt gone away in 3 weeks of trying to manage it yourself.

I am managing it myself although some days its way worse than others. I find that on bad days being more sedentary helps. It hurts all the time when I roll over in bed though. Im 30 weeks btw

BelfastNonBlonde · 09/01/2020 17:55

@undomesticgodde55 I liken it to feeling like I’ve been sitting on a shite wooden bicycle seat from the 1700s for a week..

sao81 · 09/01/2020 19:18

Hi, I've also been suffering with spd from around 14/15 weeks, I'm now 20 weeks and in so much pain. Rang my mau triage last night because it got so bad and they suspect sciatica aswell as spd. Got my first physio app in 2 weeks and have now started wearing a support belt, hoping this is enough to prevent crutches

goingtoneedabiggercar · 09/01/2020 19:23

You all have my sympathies. I first felt it at 10 weeks. By the time I delivered at 39 weeks I was in a wheelchair. I couldn't walk or drive. Physio definitely helped but eventually there wasn't much that could be done. I'm 7 weeks PP. The day I delivered I could walk without crutches and 7 weeks on the only time I feel pain is if I really over-do it (think carrying DS in a sling and doing a grand tour of every shop in Glasgow) or if I crawl across the bed. It will definitely get better. Hang on in there.

undomesticgodde55 · 09/01/2020 19:28

@goingtoneedabiggercar please please give us all hope that it made the birth somehow easier???? I'm now banking on this if my pelvis is deciding to be loose this early on....

goingtoneedabiggercar · 09/01/2020 19:31

@undomesticgodde55 sorry, can't help I had an ELCS.
