We bought the Silver Cross Pioneer although it is just a pram. Looked at travel systems initially but decided against them as don't really want baby in the car seat for any longer than necessary and the car seats that came with them tended to be a bit lightweight.

The Pioneer is a beautiful looking pram, cost £875 and came with carry cot and front facing seat. Still another 10 weeks until baby makes an appearance so can't give too much of a review yet!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 08/01/2020 12:28

I got a mammas and pappas travel system for about £800, it was supposed to be £1300 I think but there was a sale.

TheWildWoods · 08/01/2020 12:40

I've had a hauck travel system for all 3 of mine and would highly recommend them, especially if you're the type to walk and use public transport.
My first one seen me through both my boys and countless weekly shopping trips.
The car seat isn't an isofix but the stroller part is suitable from virtually birth up until toddler and beyond

PPopsicle · 08/01/2020 12:41

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do you research.

Most travels systems where a car seat is included often actually isn’t the best choice as the car seat isn’t the best/safest/lasts the longest.

For example, if you read the silver cross car seat reviews, most hardly last the child up to 6 months.

PPopsicle · 08/01/2020 12:42

And regarding non isofix, a law is currently coming into place when having an isofix base is a legal requirement

Boymummy3 · 08/01/2020 12:42

I also have a hauck travel system.. I had one with my 1st and loved it.. Had a different one with my 2nd and now gone back to the hauck travel system for my 3rd it also cost less than £150 brand new.

riddles26 · 08/01/2020 12:47

@PPopsicle please share where you have heard about isofix bases beoming a legal requirement?
I find it absolutely impossible to believe as so many cars in UK do not have isofix points. Also, isofix does not make seats any safer - it just reduces the risk of installation error. If a car seat is correctly installed, it is equally safe whether belted or isofix.

OP - isofix bases are incredibly convenient for infant carseats as you take baby in and out of car in the seat and it is so much easier than belting in every time. After that, belted seats are absolutely fine as you do not move the seat out of the car on a regular basis

Dandelion1993 · 08/01/2020 12:50

Isofix won't be a legal requirement as too many people have older cars where it isn't fitted.

I would go against a travel system. We had dd2 a year ago and went for an extended rear facing seat which can be used from birth and got the carrycot for the pram.

PPopsicle · 08/01/2020 13:02

The isize law. This is why from 2014 all cars have isofix points. The previous law is being phased out and the new one brought in

I got the stomp v4 ickle bubba which comes with an Isize car seat, its lovely ;)

MrsH497 · 08/01/2020 13:17

We've got the silver cross pioneer pram system and the maxi cosi pebble car seat. Still a few weeks to go until baby arrives and we can test run everything!

Pinkflipflop85 · 08/01/2020 13:27

We have the mamas and papas flip. I love it. Bought car seat separately (maxi cosi).

Notso · 08/01/2020 13:38

I treat the pram and car seat as two separate purchases.
Think about your needs for a pram/pushchair considering things like terrain you'll mostly use it on, size of fold, etc.

For the car seat research the best fit for your car and any other car it will need to go in regularly.

Keha · 08/01/2020 13:44

Please do seriously consider second hand. You can find some face book groups specifically for selling certain brands and there are so many barely used and immaculate prams on there. It's also quite easy to get them professionally cleaned and if it turns out to not be the right pram for you, then it doesn't feel like you've invested quite as much.

WombatStewForTea · 08/01/2020 13:47

See I've been back and forth with the travel system vs pram and car seat.
Decided not to get a travel system for the reasons people have said about not lasting long and babies not being able to be in them for too long. So I bought my pram without (silver cross surf) and was going to get an extended rear facing seat that I'd been recommended by friends.
Then I realised that the car seat I wanted would need to be in the car permanently as no handle so would have to carry baby to the car and strap them in. A few friends also mentioned how useful it is for a short trip to the shops to be able to pop them in it and keep them in while shopping rather than faffing with the pram. So I've back tracked and bought the silver cross car seat. I haven't admitted to DH that it's now cost a few hundred more than if I'd have bought it in the bundle all together.
I'll buy an extended rear facing seat when I need to

WillingSpringTime · 08/01/2020 13:53

I have an old icandy apply 2 pear that I picked up second hand which came with everything apart from a car seat. I plan to use it as a mucky pram as I have horses so spend a lot of time in wet fields or muddy tracks. I am also going to be getting another pram for 'best' when I go out in public and don't want to worry about things being covered in mud or horse hair/poo. I think I have settled on the diono quantum travel system that comes with a maxi cosi cabriofix car seat, which will also fit my icandy so killed two birds with one stone there. It is also on sale at the moment so a lot cheaper than normal.

JoshMumsnet · 08/01/2020 13:55

Hi,

We have done a few reviews on buggies/travel systems we think were the best on the market in 2019. Hope it's helpful!

Here is our travel system winner:

Ribeebie · 08/01/2020 13:58

We got a mamas and papas sola2 in the sale for just under £600 and it's been fantastic.

The car seat it came with is a cybex aton 5 gold infant carrier which is a reputable seat, and it also included the isofix base. (As others have said please do your research on car seats as some on the market are just not safe and only tested to the bare minimum standards. It maybe worth joining car seat advice UK on Facebook).

My son is 14m and only just growing out of it. We will now get him a 25kg seat for extended rear facing such as the axxkid minikid. The pram had a carrycot as part of it and DS was in it for nearly 6m as he was quite small. Now we use the pushchair and it's great and easy to pack away in the car. Second hand prams are fine but please don't buy a second hand car seat as you don't know if it's been in a crash/dropped etc. Congratulations on your new arrival.

Also if you go for a mamas and papas pram buy it at one of their expectant parent events as you get an extra 10% off - even if it's on sale that day too.

jadelouiselaird · 08/01/2020 14:02

As i have a car the pram will only really be used for like day trips, shopping trips, trips to the park etc.

Adding all these to my list to research and look at.

for those who bought their car seat separately can you attach these to the pram or are they just used for car seats only?

PPopsicle · 08/01/2020 14:03

@WombatStewForTea
Definitely useful for taking baby in and out of shops! Although out of 7 friends who have one, in don’t know anyone who has got 6 months out of the silver cross one.
I have a cybex cloud z which has a handle and has done my 80th centile DS until 18 months so I can still easily run into the shops or bring him in when he is asleep.

PPopsicle · 08/01/2020 14:04

DP, my Cybex attaches to most prams with adaptors.

Also HIGHLY recommed a swivel car seat. I couldn’t live without mine

McHelenz · 08/01/2020 14:05

Haven't used it yet as baby isn't here but I've had a cosatto giggle mix, it was 500 pounds with the isofix, adapters and car seats. They have some good January sales on at the moment x

JingleBelle27 · 08/01/2020 14:05

I bought a Venicci travel system and love it.

It comes with the carry cot, car seat and a seat which you can either face you or face outwards.

The car seat is big enough and should last until baby is around 1 as far as I can see. We paid £750 for it. Venicci Carbo.
