Hi I've recently found out I'm expecting my first bundle of love in August. Due to some medication I was taking they are monitoring my pregnancy very closely. I'm due to have a transvaginal scan next week and this will be my first one. Do any of you have any advice about what to expect? And also do you know if they take a scan photo during this type of scan?
Thank you so much xx

If it's your first time it was a bit uncomfortable but wont hurt at all I had one at 6 weeks and heard the heartbeat but she didnt give me a picture

It's basically a dildo. They put a condom and lube on the probe and insert. You'll probably have a blanket or bed roll over your legs to preserve some dignity. Yes they can take pictures.

I have had this a couple of times - it's not that bad. They will get you to undress from the waist down and then cover yourself with a sheet (I was left alone to get comfortable so it wasn't embarrassing at all) and then they put a condom and lube on the (don't know what to call it) probe...I didn't find it painful or anything just a bit uncomfortable when they insert it as it's really cold and they sometimes have to move it around a bit to get a good look at baby and it can be a bit difficult to not tense up, but just try to relax as makes it easier.

They are able to take photos just like normal scans too - I got one when my baby was 8 weeks and I have a printout - she just looked like a little blob though haha.

Congratulations by the way! :)

With this type of scan, you need an empty bladder, not a full one like a scan on the top of your pelvis. I had one today and find them easier than a smear test. If you have a latex allergy, be sure to ask for a non-latex condom cover. (most places use these anyways nowadays). They will move the probe around a bit which can feel a bit odd, but I've never had any pain at all. Congrats!

Congratulations on being pg!

I was also coming on to say I found it easier than a smear and actually it’s a much more accurate way to scan at the early stages. Come back and let us now how it goes!
