The only one I've used is the Rough Guide to Pregnancy & Birth, which has made me laugh a lot but also does have useful info. It's certainly not a pregnancy bible but I've found MN has answered everything else I've wanted to know about, and from the point of view of people who've been there and done that (or are doing it at the same time as you).

I've also got the Rough Guide book, it's full of information and reassurance and quite amusing at the same time. Other than that I'd suggest looking on the web as well as this site.

'What to expect when you're expecting' - a real font of information. A bit american - over there, you have a scan a month it seems - but generally a very good read. Separates the chapters on a month by month basis. The BBConline site is also really good - it has an interactive timeline with pictures which makes pregnancy more exciting.

congrats on the BFP!

read lots, lots of varied stuff, until you find a style that clicks

i like Ina May Gaskin & Sheila Kitzinger for their labour and birth prep.

I like the Best Friends Guide to Pregnancy by Vicki Iovine. She describes generally how you will feel and what's happening to your body and state of mind as the pregnancy grows. She also uses her friends' pregnancies to highlight the fact that everyone is different and no two PGs are the same.

The problem with those week-by-week pregnancy guides is they they can put the fear of God into you so please don't take them as gospel as everyone's pregnancy is different.

The books kept saying things like 'at xx weeks you should be feeling really sick'. I wasn't and in my hormonal state I thought the worst had happened. And they can't cover every single symptom - which made paranoid little moi worse

Thanks! My sis in law is preggers and was slagging off what to expect when you were expecting but really liked some others. obviously can't really ask her what ones now.

i think my sis had the best friends one.

any other recommendations are really welcome still!

The best one I have read the rough guide to pregnancy and birth - Kaz Cooke ( think it must be the same one as Fingerbobs and Karen Louise read) it's by an Australian author and it's hilarious and to the point.

Can I also recommend the Rough Guide? it's the only one I bought and has made me laugh out loud on numerous occasions. All other info I get from Mumsnet .
