I can't feel the ends of my fingers...!?

I've had extreme oedema for the past few weeks and its still very painful but I haven't got pre-eclampsia (got checked out a couple of weeks ago). I've even got a big patch of water retention on my bump! I've been trying to keep my feet up but my hands often get very swollen and painful as well as my face.

As I say, the consultant I saw said my bp is fine and that its just one of those things.

This morning, I was doing my DD1's hair and the ends of my fingers went all numb and tingly!!?? Could this be something to do with all the water retention or should I be worried!? Its reasonably painful but then they hurt anyway...

Even though this is my third, I've never heard of this and I still get worried about stuff!?

Cheers in advance - I'm off out to the cinema soon as its DD1's birthday today (yay!). I'll check in later to see if anybody has any knowledge on this one!

is it carpal tunnel syndrome ? i certainly think it is worth calling MW...

piggysgal · 28/08/2007 16:52

PLP, I'm 33 weeks and 3 day and have had the same thing for a couple of months now. I think it's just one of those pregnancy things. Try not to worry - easier said than done I know!

Don't worry, sounds like carpal tunnel. I had that and couldn't feel my middle finger on my right hand for ages. Get it checked out though for proper diagnosis.

Definitely sounds like carpal tunnel due to the extra fluid - I suffered quite badly with it in last couple of months of my 1st pregnancy. In the end, anything that involved keeping fingers in one position for a few minutes would make them go numb. V annoying and can get quite painful at night (if it does, you can get wrist supports to keep your hands in an open position) but does go once you've had the baby.

Hi PLP! I've had a bit of carpal tunnel syndrome this pregnancy too, it does sound like that's what you've got. It wasn't painful, though some people say theirs is, but mine felt kind of numb and tingly. I was given some exercises by the mw to relieve it. It's worth asking... I hope you enjoyed the cinema!

agree - sounds like carpal tunnel. I have had it with my pregnancies. Not a lot you can do unfortunately, other than the night time wrist supports (which don't actually seem to help that much) sorry...
