Is it ok to lie on my front?

I'm now 16 weeks and really struggling to get comfy. I have back ache, not awful yet, but it's constant and annoying.

I read that your not supposed to lie on your back after 16 weeks because of the baby's weight putting pressure on the blood vessels. I want to follow the advice but I'm not comfy at all on my side and it makes my back ache more.

At the moment I feel better lying on my front (bump not as big as boobs yet), but I'm not sure if this is safe for baby? Everything I've read says it won't be comfy, but it feels best for me at the moment.

I've ordered a giant pregnancy pillow but got to wait a few days for delivery.

Any tips? I'm getting grumpy.

I've just been googling the exact same thing so hoping for an answer! I'm 14 weeks. Google seems to suggest it's a no as it's uncomfortable, whereas like you I've found lots of clear explanations/ evidence against lying on your back.

Like you I'm fed up of lying on my side, I usually lie either front or side so would love a few more weeks on my front!!

I slept on my front right up until I physically couldn't any more. I've never heard anything that suggests you shouldn't. Baby is very well protected.

Sleep however you can get most comfortable.

The not sleeping on your back thing is far later than 16 weeks, you should be fine to do that until the 3rd trimester, or until it becomes uncomfortable.

I slept on my front until it was too uncomfortable, I dont think theres any reasearch that says not too. The NHS research says that you shouldnt lie on your back after the third trimester. At 16 weeks its safe, although if you're having problems i'd start practising now. Im 29 weeks now and sleeping is just uncomfortable full stop. If I want to lie on my back I prop myself up with 3 pillows.

I'm a front sleeper and slept on my front (went to sleep on side, but woke up on my front) while pregnant up until about 16 weeks. It then suddenly became super uncomfortable and I kept waking myself up when I tried to roll onto my front in the night.

I have no doubt there will come a point where it's impossible to sleep on your front. Unless you cut a hole in your mattress that is. You do get used to side sleeping. Took about a week after baby was born to resume sleeping on my front.

I used to lie awake in the middle of the night during my pregnancies trying to work out how to invent something like this.

Am 25 weeks and still sleep in my front as only way I can get comfy the only time I dont is sometimes the baby kicks a lot more when am on my front so I take this as a sign he wants me to not but it's fine to sleep on front especially at 16 weeks x

Thanks everyone. It took over 3 hours to get to sleep last night so I'm seriously grumpy today. Can't wait until my giant pillow arrives .
