I'm being induced at 38+3 next Friday and wanting peoples stories of their induction! This is my first so I'm Aware it could be a long process, I'm nervous but so excited to meet my baby 😍💗

I was induced with my first and planned for induction with second but she arrived before the induction date!
In my experience it was completely fine. The process started for me at about 11:30am on day 1 and baby arrived around 22:30 on day 2 so not much hanging around really! I began. To feel 'uncomfortable' mid afternoon and could feel some pressure down below then my waters broke on their own around 10pm day 1 and I was having contractions from then.
Be prepared to go with the flow I have two other friends who were induced with their first baby and one took forever (around 6 days) and the other had her baby in her arms within three hours!
I wish you the very best of luck, you'll soon have your precious baby in your arms!

Not necessarily a long process! I was induced at 10am, started having twinges at 8pm, active labour by 12am and baby in my arms by 3am!
It worked a bit too well tbh, instead of the drip to speed things up they had to remove the pessary to slow things down. Do you know what method they are using? Pessary or balloon?

I was given two pessaries and two tablets over the course of nearly 48 hours but my cervix didn't really change at all. They couldn't do much else and so I ended up with a c-section. I don't think failed inductions are very common but it is possible for induction to do nothing at all, something I hadn't really considered.

I was induced with DD1, given a speech about how my body wasn't ready and it was going to take days. I think the pessary went in at 6pm, around 6am I had my first contraction and under 4 hours later she was here. Good luck.

Induced at 40+10. Induced for the first time at 8am then again maybe at 2pm and again at 8pm. It was very boring tbh!

I had prostaglandin pains (ouch, ouch, ouch) from about 9pm - 11pm, when they moved me to a ward and sent DH home. Labour came on properly at about midnight. SIL is a MW and was on shift, so she phoned DH to come back. She also made me wait on the ward for about 30 mins so I could her choice of midwife!

I was in active labour between midnight and 9:30am, but ended up with a emergency-emergency section, not quite a crash section as I was offered a choice of spinal and general. But I was whisked halfway across the hospital as the maternity theatres were full! My DS was delivered in what I later realised was a paediatric theatre. They were worried about DS and there were maybe 15 people in the theatre when he was born, paediatricians, obstetricians, nurses and midwives. DS was absolutely fine and totally beautiful!!

All the luck in the world and you'll never tire of telling your birth story Wink.

I was induced at 38 weeks. Had 3 pessaries from 8am Saturday to 8am Sunday which did pretty much nothing. Midwife broke my waters at 9am and they put me on the drip to start contractions. It was all a bit hard going as then everything went from 0-10, no build up or light contractions to prepare me! I had an epidural at about 4pm as was exhausted and struggling. That was wonderful and I slept my way to 10cm, 10 minutes of pain free pushing just doing what the midwife told me and DD born at 9:10pm Sunday night, no problems or tears or anything. If it hadn’t been for that long, boring and tiring first 24 hours in hospital my experience would have been great and overall it was pretty good.

Induced at 37 weeks due to pre-eclampsia.

Day 1 started at 10am with the first gel pessary. Second gel (I think) was 6 hours later. Combined with a ton of marching around a field I got to 1cm dilated.

Day 2 started at 1am by moving down to the delivery suite. They only had 1 active labourer at the time, so they decided I may as well be there. 3am I had my waters broken. Still no labour. 5am saw the drip getting hooked up. It was gradually cranked up over the next few hours until I was having contractions at the rate and strength they wanted. 11am (3cm) I had some morphine. Slept because of it (except at the peak of contractions) until 5pm (10cm). Started pushing 20 minutes later as the drip had been turned down to give me a little respite, but my contractions died away, so it needed turning up again. Another 20 minutes later, I had my baby.

Only a small second degree tear and the placenta took its sweet time coming out. I was about to go to theatre, but an emergency section came through, and it came out on its own.

Good luck for next week!

Induced at 40+12, literally no signs of readiness, baby not even engaged. Had pessary at 10am, first contraction at 2pm, baby born at 5.30pm. It was great!

sophiemarie2020 · 03/01/2020 20:29

Thank you for your stories! I've not been told what type il have yet, I believe they want to examine me on the day and check how my cervix is. If I am at all dilated, they will pop my waters and take it from there, but if not then they'll decide on what method to use (from what I gathered).

Does anyone recommend I pack a lot extra in my bag as I could be there a while longer? Did you all stay in your hospital beds etc?

1st - gel and dd was born 4 hours later
2nd - gel and contractions on/off for a day or so (not very very painful at any point), waters then broken and dd2 arrived 1 1/2 hours later

flissity · 03/01/2020 20:36

In answer to your last question: I was induced on the ward, then sent off for walking etc... so left our stuff in locker on the ward.

Once in established labour (hrs and hrs later...) they moved me to delivery suite where Baby eventually born.

Then after stitches, shower etc... moved me to recovery ward. I stayed for 2 nights as had forceps delivery and wasn’t well after.

So yes a lot of moving about!!

Dyra · 03/01/2020 20:53

I stayed for two nights afterwards to make sure my pre-eclampsia didn't worsen. I'd say to definitely pack for at least one night. Have a second bag packed for a couple more nights that can stay in the car.

You can stay in your bed if you like while waiting for labour to start. The advice though is to go walking to try to trigger contractions. The few contractions I got from the pessaries was from marching around a field. You will need to return to the ward every hour or so to have baby monitored though.
