Call GP, EPU or Midwife?? SCH and low dose asprin

I'm currently 8weeks+2. I was told to be on low dose asprin throughout this pregnancy as I have suspected blood clotting issues that may have caused a previous miscarriage.

I had an abdominal scan following some bleeding in at the Early Pregnancy Unit yesterday. They said baby was doing fine, good size in line with the dates and a normal heartbeat.

When asked for reason of the bleed, they found a subchorionic bleed (SCH) away from the gestational sac measuring 2.9x12x14mm. They said its not something they'd worry about, sometimes it can be absorbed but to probably expect I will have another bleed when it dissolves.

When I got home, I googled and found conflicting stories about whether or not to remain on low dose asprin when a SCH has been found. The EPU should have had that I'm taking low dose asprin on previous notes but doubt they looked at this yesterday.

I'm really freaking out of what to do and what is best for our baby. I have no idea who is best to give advice in this situation; GP, midwife or EPU?! Worried as its Friday if I don't act quickly I may not get an answer until after the weekend and then could make the wrong choice.

Does anyone know who is best to contact in this situation?

I would try and contact whichever one advised you to take the aspirin. Sorry you're going through such a worrying time Thanks

Who told you to take aspirin? I don’t have a discussion with them but ask whoever to get an obstetricians view.

CherryPavlova · 03/01/2020 08:34

That was I’d have a discussion....

Ring EPU

Thank you all so much for your quick responses. My GP and previous midwife advised low dose aspirin. However, just searched for the lady who scanned me in the EPU yesterday and she is an obstetrician so will try to contact them today. They are awful with returning calls as they're so busy so I really hope she calls me back today. In the meantime, may also contact GP to see if they can help me to get through to any obstetrician just in case?

If she

If the obstetrician is a consultant then I would see if you can get through to her secretary and explain the situation. I normally find consultants' secretaries extremely helpful.

@ByAppointmentTo thank you so much. Just got through to her secretary and explained how panicked I was to not know what to do especially approaching the weekend. She promised to pass on the message to call back this afternoon once she's done with clinic. Fingers crossed she does.

In case anyone in a similar position comes across this thread in the future, I was advised by the obstetrician and my GP remain on low dose aspirin. Would still recommend checking with your own individual situation of course but thought this may be helpful x
