Feel so guilty for not taking pregnancy vitamins

How important is it to take the pregnancy tablets like Pregnacare, Seven Seas? I’ve not taken mine since week 12 (when I stopped the folic acid tablets) and am now 23 weeks. I’m worried I’ve affected or disadvantaged my baby in some way by not taking them - and they’re not even born yet!

I’ve not been doing my pelvic floor exercises either - I have no discipline Sad

Is 7 seas a multi vitamin? If so it probably doesn't have enough vitamin D. You should be taking 3000 to 5000 IU per day. Don't stress about the time that you didn't take it. All you can do is start taking it now. Continue to take it after you've had the baby and make sure you give vitamin D to the baby as well especially if it's breastfed.
My understanding is that the folic acid is actually more important at the time of conception and possibly the first trimester. Doesn't really matter after that.

Yes, Seven Seas is a multivitamin and does contain vitamin D - I will check exactly how much!

The recommended amount of vitamin d for pregnancy in UK is 10 micro grams not the higher amount quoted below. I have a higher amount because of my ethnic origin and darker skin colour. Recommendations in scandenavia are higher too. But the official guidance in the UK is still 10 micro grams and not the higher amounts

Quoted above I mean

Also all breastfed babies need vitamin D drops. We have the wellbaby vitamin D drops ready to use when DC2 makes an appearance (any day now!

don't worry about what you haven't been doing, you had the folic acid when it mattered and you can take vit d supplement (NHS) from now
do, do, your pf exercises!!! and carry on for the rest of your life...it's not hard you just need a way of remembering, eg do it when you clean your teeth

My youngest is now 15. We were advised folic acid until 12 weeks, but nothing else. With my first, I was so sick I barely ate anything apart from dry rice Krispies until 17 weeks. He turned 18 last month and towers above me. It won't do any harm not taking vitamins.

I have just taken boots folic acid and vitamin D all the way through. I've been really sick and they're the only ones I could manage. I tried Pregnacare because I wasn't eating well but they were hideous.

The boots tablets are really good because they're small :) Midwife recommended I just carried on with the folic acid and the vitamin D :)

Thanks for the advice - back on the Seven Seas as of tonight!

@thoughtlessinEngland 10mcg = 400iu but those recommendations are generally accepted by the science experts as being too low for northern countries and/or people with darker skin. At some point the official recommendations will catch up with what the scientists are recommending. (My father is a world renowned expert on Vitamin D and nutrition, so I tend to hear about these things ahead of the crowd.)

Thoughtlessinengland · 03/01/2020 22:13

Yes hence I said I take the much higher amount for my dark skin and ethnicity, and that Recs are higher in various other countries. However on the basis that this is an Internet forum like any other I thought it a good opportunity to point out to the OP the current Recs here in the UK. Speaking as a person who takes 4000 a day and has done ever since getting diagnosed with a definciency having spent 2 years here 10 years ago.
