Hi all,

I’m 17 weeks and I’m feeling anxious as I’ve been reading about slap cheek (parvovirus) and it’s affects on pregnancy. About two weeks ago my 2 year old cane down with cold symptoms and a very chest cough. My husband and I also got a bad cold symptoms. The last few days my daughters cheeks keep looking flush but it comes and goes and then today she has a few red dots on her chest but not really a rash. I took her to the dr who basically said if it was slap cheek she would have had a fever but said it’s hard to tell for sure.

I’m wondering if anyone can help put my mind at ease, does this sound like slap cheek? I’m worried about the pregnancy!

Also has anyone been exposed during pregnancy and been ok. I should add that I know I’m not immune as I had a blood test in my first pregnancy which showed I’m not immune. Thanks so much everyone

Best thing is to phone your midwife and tell them ur child had slapped cheek they should offer bloods to see if you have contracted it

I had my bloods tested for it when pregnant as I had excessive amniotic fluid. I had antibodies to it and some how they could tell I had been exposed to it pre pregnancy. I can’t remember how they knew that now.

Ring your midwife tomorrow and discuss it with them.

At my bloods at 12 week it showed i had parvo virus they did bloods again 2 weeks later and all was clear midwife didn't seem too concerned but I was also going through having high nt results and amnio test so that may have been why I'm not 23 weeks and everything is fine

I’m just not sure if I’m being paranoid because she wasn’t actually diagnosed with it?

He vomited four times in the night, wasn't upset or bothered by it still jumping on my bed.
But the next day he seemed to get sicker, at around 11am he had this rash on his cheeks. So I rushed him to a&e, the gp was meant to call me back from 8 am but didn't and I wasn't waiting around.
At the hospital they said he was a virus and just before we were discharged, I said could you tell me if there's a reason for the rash on his cheeks?
Doctors came back after a quick google and said it's probably slap cheek.
It took about two weeks for him to get back to his self.
The doctor did say that once the rash appears the child is contagious anymore.
