SneakPeek Gender Test (8 weeks)

Just wondering if anyone else has tried this (couldn't see anything on search).

My sister (who lives in Australia) told me about a new test that is popular over there which can tell you the baby gender from 8 weeks. I googled and found SneakPeek which promises 99% accuracy and having checked the science behind it, it all seems to make sense (the foetal chromosomes are in your blood from 7 weeks at the latest so if there is a Y in there then you must be having a boy).

Anyway I ordered one (£59) and got my results yesterday - it's a girl Smile

Anyone else done this? I know some people would prefer to wait. But I'm super impatient haha.

The SEX of your child is female. The GENDER may take years to know!

RanchoRelaxo · 01/01/2020 20:52

I half remember reading about this test when I was pregnant, didn't dare do anything before the 12 week scan, and then forgot about it! Interesting to see if it is accurate though

Strangerthanstrange · 01/01/2020 20:54

Is this the one that offers money back if wrong? They are onto a winner.

Laurapb88 · 01/01/2020 21:21

I had this done at 8+5 and was told girl but I'm actually having a boy but it was correct with my friend who did have a girl my only advice is dont buy anything until you have it confirmed with a gender scan x

JessManc · 01/01/2020 21:38

@Soontobe60 - correct!

@Laurapb88 - thanks for sharing. I've just looked at some more in depth reviews and seen quite a few people complaining it was wrong... but I guess they are the ones most likely to write the review.

I got excited and told a few people and am now regretting it. Oh well, we will see!

OP I actually made a similar post about this a few weeks ago, as I was also wondering if it was any good. However the reviews on trust pilot put me off, I think I will just wait and go for a private gender reveal scan at 16 weeks xx

MrsJoshNavidi · 01/01/2020 22:52

For the umpteenth time:
YOU CANNOT TELL THE GENDER OF A FOETUS!

Soontobe60 · 01/01/2020 23:13

So they charge £59 for a sex test. The law of averages tell us that the ratio of males to females is generally 50/50. The chances of guessing the correct sex is also 50/50 which I'd say is pretty good odds.
Mathematically I'm sure there's a formula to calculate this, but it's a pretty good set up as the only people who they got the wrong sex of would complain and want a refund. Can you be sure there isn't some bloke at the bepack of the clinic just tossing a coin to predict M or F sex?

JasonPollack · 01/01/2020 23:16

I think this is a scam, sorry. I don't think foetal chromosomes would be detectable in your blood. AFAIR maternal and foetal blood does not actually mix.

worried111111 · 02/01/2020 00:08

Was correct for me. And yes, they give the money back if they were wrong.

Darkstar4855 · 02/01/2020 02:28

@JasonPollack tiny amounts of fetal DNA can be found in maternal blood, it’s how they do NIPT.

JessManc · 02/01/2020 07:39

@JasonPollack - I had a look to see what the science says and it is possible to detect it: www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/m/pubmed/8532624/

But of course, it depends if they do what they claim.

Looking at the amazon reviews it looks like about 80% success rate, and most of the incorrect ones were if you got a boy result but it's actually a girl.

I'll let you all know if it was correct or not!

Why do people need to know the sex at 8 weeks??

The 12 week anomaly scan is more important than knowledge of specific TS genitalia, surely?

ColdCottage · 02/01/2020 08:28

A friend did this. Thought it was a girl (she had 4 boys already) and it was another boy. Caused quite a bit of upset.

Laurapb88 · 02/01/2020 20:11

OP I did a gender reveal and everything 😂 felt a bit silly after I had a scan at 16 weeks, and people don't need to know the sex some women are just excited especially if this is there miracle baby like mine is each to there own and all that

Laurapb88 · 02/01/2020 20:13

Oh just a side note you cant get your money back until you can send a birth certificate x

Aug2020 · 02/01/2020 20:51

Is it a blood test?
I had the NIPT at 10 weeks on my first pregnancy and they were able to tell us the sex. It was correct for us.
Not sure if this is a different thing altogether though.

moonsmarshmellow · 03/01/2020 13:26

Is the accuracy different depending on how many weeks you are?

Eg blood test at 8 or 9 weeks is going to be less accurate than 12+ weeks?

I’d also imagine if they are looking for the presence of Y chromosomes then you’re more likely to get a false ‘girl’ reading where they just failed to detect anything? Whereas a ‘boy’ reading would be unlikely to be wrong, quite similar to seeing the sex on scans actually- girl is often predicted based on the absence of something.

I don’t know anybody who has had these early blood tests over here, are they popular in other areas like the US?

Missyrogan8 · 21/08/2020 18:02

I know this is an old post but how did you get on jessmanc? Was. It correct?

Thanks :)
