Heartbroken over thinking I was pregnant

I really thought I was pregnant the last 4 days and me and my partner was getting our hopes up and got excited. Woke up this morning to do test but my period arrived. So so upset. It's only our first month trying but I really wanted to start the new year with something positive.

Is there any fertility stuff I could use to help conceive next month?

So sorry OP, I’ve be been there - convinced myself and then felt crushed.

Research B vitamins.

ChloJ · 01/01/2020 07:28

I've just ordered some conceive plus lubricant and going to get some vitamins too, also going to start taking some folic acid x

The Clearblue fertility monitor always worked for us

YorkshirePud1 · 01/01/2020 07:41

I can't say with complete certainty they helped, but I started taking coenzyme q10 and the first month I did I fell pregnant. Have a look online, the supplements come recommended when trying to conceive.

LouH1981 · 01/01/2020 07:48

Hi, ah I’m sorry, I completely understand how devastating that feels. Like @YorkshirePud1 I took CoEnzyme Q10 and fell pregnant quite quickly after trying for a while. I also started to track my body basal temp (BBT) which really helped me to understand what my body was doing. I used the free Kindara app to plot the temps.
Fingers crossed you won’t have to wait too long xxxx

Try TTC every other day for the month.

20viona · 01/01/2020 08:07

We used preseed and got pregnant the second month we tried.

WorldsOnFire · 01/01/2020 08:12

We used conceive plus lube and I took 7 seas prenatal vitamins. We conceived the very first cycle. I think the lube makes a huge difference. Really helps the swimmers last longer and stand a better chance 👍🏻

I’d also recommend ordering a boat load of cheap ovulation tests from amazon (think I paid about £5 for 70 or something like that. Tested every single day, sometimes twice 👍🏻
When I got a very clear 👍🏻 We DTD

DS is due in 12 weeks 👍🏻

ChloJ · 01/01/2020 08:40

Thank you everyone, it took me and my partner 6 months with our first and she was a surprise so I'm sure in the next couple of months we'll conceive. @WorldsOnFire I've just ordered 50 femometer ovulation test strips so should I start testing as soon as my period finishes?

I'm also popping to the shops later to get some vitamins x

@ChloJ

I started testing as soon as I finished my period but then again I had irregular periods so it really was like throwing a dart to guess when I’d ovulate. Took about 3-4 weeks from my period to get a positive test it felt like forever! But hey I can’t complain really xx

PurpleDaisies · 01/01/2020 09:08

What you most likely need is time. Almost no one conceived the first month. Almost everyone will conceive in the first year.

It’s easy to chalk successes up to “I used this” or “I used that” but it’s highly likely that that just happened to be the month that it worked out and would have been regardless. You can absolutely tie yourself in knots trying to find the magic thing that will work when fit most couples sex every other day is enough.

Good luck Flowers

Halloweenbabyy · 01/01/2020 09:36

I know exactly how you feel. I used to sob when my period would turn up 😭. I used my Fitbit to monitor periods/ovulation but I don’t think it was 100% accurate x

ttc2018andbeyond · 01/01/2020 09:57

Sorry op, it can be a very disappointing time. I've been ttc for 18 months and have tried everything you can think of and in my experience I believe it really just comes down to luck. Enjoy ttc by dtd when you feel like it over the next few cycles and try not to put so much pressure on yourself. It can be a very long, emotional journey and it's normal to take 12 months to conceive.

sel2223 · 01/01/2020 11:12

I cant tell you if it worked or was just pure coincidence but I started taking proceive supplements daily and used conceive plus lubricant around the time I guessed I was ovulating and I got pregnant on my second cycle. First pregnancy, age 36.
Like I said, it could be a complete coincidence. I'll never know as never TTC before this.

NameChaChaChanges · 01/01/2020 11:45

I think there's only like a 20% chance of conception each cycle, even for a perfectly healthy, fertile couple. So while it's always disappointing when it doesn't happen straight away, it's not in any way abnormal.
In some ways it's probably better, if you haven't started taking folic acid yet, I think it's recommended to start taking it before starting TTC as folic acid is important in the very early development of the embryo.

I don't think there is anything you can do to guarantee you are pregnant next cycle (if only it was the easy!), as it's partly down to luck! But the more sex you have, particularly in the days leading up to, and just after, ovulation then the better your chances.

I used fertility lube both times I got pregnant, but mainly to replace normal lube, as that isn't generally sperm friendly. The first time I was fully charting my BBT, etc. and used the Clearblue fertility monitor - it took six months of trying. The second time we literally just had sex every other day during fertile window (based on nothing more than fertile CM) and got pregnant the first month. So just goes to show that (fertility issues aside) it will happen when it happens!
Good luck OP.

I took a evening primrose supplement everyday until ovulation on the month we conceived. Hope you get you BFP soon xx
