Probably a silly question but I tested positive on Christmas eve but only used a test from the pound shop(this was all I could find at the time and wanted to know) question is are they reliable or should I buy a more expensive make, I have done two now and both were positive.

I think they should be reliable. The basic test strip is quite simple - I work for the NHS and we go through tonnes and they must be cheap ones. I used a £1 one and got a positive and am pregnant. My understanding is it is very rare to get a false positive. If you have two clear positives then it's very likely you are pregnant.

Thank you Keha that's good to know especially from someone who works for the NHS 😊

I used own brand one, the pack of the 2 was something like £3 so quite cheap in comparison to the better brands. Definitely pregnant! Home pregnancy tests are so reliable nowadays, even cheap ones, which is why GPs don’t confirm pregnancy anymore. Congrats x

Yes, cheap ones are very reliable. Expensive ones are expensive due to branding, packaging and some market research the actual technology of the test is exactly the same (including digital ones). Some are more sensitive than others with more "accurate" ones tending to be less sensitive which is because the less sensitive they are the longer you've been pregnant for, the higher your HCG levels and the clearer the result. Obviously the earlier you find out you are pregnant, the more time there is for you to discover a miscarriage.
