Exactly that really! I'm planning on breastfeeding when our first arrives in April but not to sure how long you're supposed to keep it going?

I breastfed my first for 11 months he no longer wanted it and my second at 13 months. I found feeding less and less as I introduced solid foods towards the end it was just once a day before bedtime x

UpsyIggleDaisyPiggle · 30/12/2019 20:12

A couple of days. The pain was too much for me.

bengalcat · 30/12/2019 20:13

5 months - until I returned to work FT

TheGriffle · 30/12/2019 20:14

Dd1 I stopped when she was 21 months, dd2 is still going at 33 months with no sign of stopping so I’m planning on hopefully fully weaning her by the time she’s 3.

Tinty · 30/12/2019 20:14

19mths Dc1, 13mths Dc2. Gave up with both when they were ready.

CalleighDoodle · 30/12/2019 20:14

Oldest for 22 months. Last feed was night before second was born. After he was born oldest stopped, saying my milk was disgusting Hmm, and youngest obviously started. In total, over 4 years in a row.

God i miss those boobs.

Biancadelrioisback · 30/12/2019 20:14

10 months. Returned to work at 9 and it was just too difficult to keep doing it

Gizmo79 · 30/12/2019 20:15

First was about 10 months, second 16 months, Thor’s was a very long 2.5 years! Only kidding! But he eventually self weaned whilst the other two had it forced on them!

MonicaGellerHyphenBing · 30/12/2019 20:15

14 months. I definitely felt ready to stop but ultimately it was DD who made up her own mind and weaned herself.

Gizmo79 · 30/12/2019 20:15

Thor means third!

limitedscreentime · 30/12/2019 20:16

Go as long as you want to/can!! There isn't a limit unless you or your child decide it. I hoped to feed to a year but weaned my first at 19m as I was pregnant and my boobs hurt like hell, plus I couldn't stand it. That was easy but I then regretted it as naps got so much harder to do! I earned my second at about 34m as she was very dedicated (although only at bedtime and in the morning) and although I wasn't really enjoying it she was so traumatised by any suggestion of weaning I couldn't do it. They do go through phases where it is easier to wean or not but ultimately it's down to you.

NuffingChora · 30/12/2019 20:17

16 months - it was a battle at the beginning but overall worth it. Feeding number 2 at the moment and it’s been much easier - she will also take expressed BM or formula from a bottle every few days which is reassuring for me in case of emergencies etc. I imagine I’ll keep going till around the 1yr mark again.

RudolphIsMySpiritAnimal · 30/12/2019 20:18

Three and a half years per child.

Dipsydoodle · 30/12/2019 20:19

DD is 10mo and we are still going but I think she will probably self-wean soon as she only really feeds once overnight now. If I didn't offer it, I don't think she would be bothered!

DameSylvieKrin · 30/12/2019 20:19

17 months for number one. Now 15 months and still going with number two. He just has before going to bed, when he wakes up in the morning and when I pick him up from nursery so it isn’t onerous at all.

Frlrlrubert · 30/12/2019 20:20

23 months.

CFlemingSmith · 30/12/2019 20:20

Never. Not one drop Grin

CalleighDoodle · 30/12/2019 20:21

Make sure you go to breastfeeding sessions to find out what to do and what not to do. Find breastfeeding support sessions near you and go. Make sure youre armed with info. Phone the professions and ask for advice. Talk about any issues youre having and ask them for solutions. The let down can be painful initially. Your nipples can hurt initially. But making sure your are armed with information and lots of different solutions will keep you going.

Look through the site kelky’s moms. Also see if you can attend an nct group near you.

Breastfeeding for the first 6 months will be a great aim. But getting to 12 months so you never need to buy formula would be financially brilliant! The who used to say aim for two years.

SingingSands · 30/12/2019 20:21

5 months for 1st and 2.5 years for 2nd

Itsigginingtolookalotlikexmas · 30/12/2019 20:22

Until they wanted to stop which was a year longer for one than the other

thismeansnothing · 30/12/2019 20:22

DD1 9 months. Stopped due to recurring mastitis that was a sod to shift, plus going back to work.

Dd2 3 weeks. Cracked nipples that got infected, her with prolonged jaundice which made bf difficult with the practicalities of having a 7 year old that needed to be here there and everywhere.

concernedforthefuture · 30/12/2019 20:23

14 months for both children

TheOrigFV45 · 30/12/2019 20:23

Till age 3 for DS1 and over 4 years for DS2. The last 18 months or so was just the first feed of the day snuggled in bed.
Never for a moment planned to do child led weaning but it just worked out that way.
I didn't have many problems. Expressed on my return to work with DS1 but had more mat leave with DS2 so he never had expressed milk.

It had its ups and downs but essentially I was too lazy to stop! Only a few kindred spirits knew/know I BF that long. No shame, but it was a private thing between me and my boys.

SnuffleBadger · 30/12/2019 20:23

EBF both of mine for 6 months. In hindsight I put far too much pressure on myself to breastfeed for that long, especially as I was unable to express. I would advise you to just go with the flow and breastfeed for as long as you feel comfortable, don't put a timeframe on it.

thereareotherplaces · 30/12/2019 20:25

There is no correct answer. 10 months for each child here. This was about the time I went back to work and gradually weaned them off it.
