How many sleepsuits in your hospital bag?

I'm starting to put my hospital bag together - planning a hand luggage sized case for me and changing bag for baby. But how many sleepsuits should I pack? I've got them in a few sizes so was thinking a couple in the smaller/bigger size and maybe 4 in first size. We aren't far from the hospital so can easily get back for extra supplies, it's just whether DH can find everything!

If you are breastfeeding most hospitals will keep you 2 nights as a minimum even if things don’t go wrong.

This is total nonsense.

I've done 3 newborn and 3 vests.. Only. Had small Babies before.
I've put everything in a small roller Case and a bag with drinks Nappies and wipes.

We live less than 5 min drive from. Hospital and everything is here in drawers etc. So if I need more dh can pack a case

The BF thing is false.
Our hospital let my friend out 6 hours after an emergency section.. With her 2nd.
My cousin BF and was out 2 hours after birth.

6 baby grows. I reckon they get through about 3 a day at the beginning so that would be 2 days worth. I would bring a combination of sizes. Mine wore newborn size but not for very long, but most people I know went straight to 0-3 months or had early babies and so they were in tiny baby

I took four sleepsuits and four vests. It wasn't enough!

Ended up calling family to bring lots more in as I had an emergency c-section, so was in hospital for 3 nights. Plus I had a reflux baby who threw up after every feed. I must've got through about 15 babygrows!

Thank you everyone. It sounds like it's pretty tough to guess size and length of stay. As far as I know everything is measuring bang on the cms to weeks at the moment. Hopefully we'll be home quickly but good to know an emergency run wouldn't be completely out of the ordinary!

I was in a few days with both of mine. Dd was jaundiced and ds had to be monitored for a suspected heart murmur. Conversely my sister was out within a few hours after having her ds on Christmas eve (she wanted to be home for her other 2 kids).

I am also in Scotland and have never heard of this system:

Here (Scotland) you need one to go home. While in hospital they wear ones donated only. Mint saves any confusion if one gets scooped up and put in hospital washing and lost forever.

The way it works is you use whatever you need, baby grows, vests, cardigans, hats from a huge trolley. Dump in wash when changing baby. Patients in the other wards knit the cardigans and hats.

When you leave you are asked if you have a few baby grows or vests you would like to donate when baby outgrows them to please do so.

Is this a new policy @moodolph?

I had my first in 2013 and he went straight into clothes I'd brought from home.

I would think its hospital specific. As I say I was told it was to stop people's items being lost in laundry.

I brought 3 x newborn and 3 x 0-3 months for my baby last week.
He was just under 7lb and the 0-3 months were too huge for him.
Overnight he wet 2 vests and baby grows as I wasn't used to little boys seeing when changing the nappy! I text my husband to bring more newborn from home and he forgot. To save an outfit for going home that day we spent the day having skin to skin with him wrapped in a blanket. I was in for one night, was BF and had an ELCS.

Wow, my ds is 10 weeks old today and 0-3 months are only just starting to fit him now!
