Hi

Due this pregnancy being our 1st and with the usual concerns we a having with the health of the baby. My fiancee not only has a cold and cough at the moment but has other complications too.

We were wondering about the fetal doppler monitors . I have done some research on these and there appears to be advice saying to sit tight until your next scan from your practitioner etc.

Although our next scan is on the 31st yes that's right new years eve! We are wanting to know if anyone has used these devices considering that she is 13 weeks 1 day in to her pregnancy

Thank you

Tim

@CmdrCressidaDuck

The issues are fibroids, retroverted uterus, cysts and endometriosis stage 4. Plus she is 47. The advice from the maternity assessment unit was to go to A and E if we are concerned about the baby. They would then refer us accordingly.

Thank you all for your advice on the matter of the fetal doppler we will avoid buying one of these and am really surprised that they were allowed to be sold to the public in then first place with all of the issues they cause.

@firstimemamma

Please understand that I am listening to all of the advice here and sorry if you have taken my replies in any other way I have taken on board all advice given here and will not be buying one of these devices

OP I’m sure you will be offered more regular appointments to most given the medical history. I know my cousin was with her health conditions.

Any pregnancy is a worry. This is my third baby and I’ve worried the most. My friends used to say right I’m buying you a Doppler but I know it would have made me worse! Good luck for your scan. I booked a private scan after my dating scan to look forward to before I had the 20 week one :) I felt that helped me

@Starlight84

Thank you for your reply we have been using a private scan company too. However they are an hour away which is a long journey for my fiancee and very hard to get a booking as they are so popular.

I guess we will wait for the NHS scan and go from there. Again in thank everyone here for your advice on the matter

Thanks

Tim

Yes where I went was 50 min drive. Worth it though if you can do it. I had to go back though on my gender scan as the cord slipped between the legs! That was the awkward part!

At the stage that you're at they won't follow more appointments because sadly there is very little they could do. However once you pass the 12 week scan which you are on Tuesday they will start, probably with consultant appointments then growth scans after the 20 week to keep an eye.

The first 3 months are the quietest and most nerve wracking.

Just to say I have an introverted uterus and stage iv endo and this hasn't been seen as something to be concerned about in the first instance of pregnancy. I DO have placenta previa which MAY have been caused by the endo or just as likely my previous miscarriages and operations.

Hope all is well.

@timcs I am glad to hear that the Mumsnet collective have convinced you against a home doppler. Just a thought, have you considered employing a private midwife who would be able to give you continuity and extra time/information and support throughout your pregnancy. A great charity set up to give you lots of good information about keeping babies safe is Mama Academy . Google their website.
Hope things go well for you
