Mumps in the first trimester

Has anyone here had mumps in the first trimester? I’m not certain that’s what I’ve got but I’ve had a rotten cough/cold for the last 5 days and woke with the left side under my jaw being tender and swollen and it hurts when I open my mouth too wide. Definitely not teeth as no dental pain and I’ve had an abscess before and know what that’s like.

Can you have swelling on just the one side or does it always progress to both? I’ve had my mumps vaccination at uni due to an outbreak and have had lots of immunisation checks as I work in the NHS.

Do I need to see the GP? I’m a tad nervous if it is mumps as I’ve read it can further increase your MC risk in the first 12 weeks. Sad

I would seek medical advice soon. Maybe it's not that but you need to get checked.

Could it be sinus pain radiating down? Or just swollen glands from the illness? GP probably a good idea.

Thanks both. I’ve spoken to our local MIU and they said unlikely to be mumps if I’ve had the vaccination but it could be an infection. They advised to ring 111 for an out of hours GP apt. I’m going to do it once DH is home from work.

Do it now because you may have to wait several hours for a call back or a gp appt.

I’ve just messaged DH to see what time he’ll be home as he’ll need to be here for DC

When I had mumps as a child I only had it one side. Fingers crossed it isn't though

It’s unlikely to be mumps if you are vaccinated and have had your immunity tested. Your gland is probably up while your body fights off a virus. Take paracetamol and have plenty of fluids and rest, and get checked when you can.

Thanks @EstebanTheMagnificent for the reassurance. Have been waiting for a call back from 111 since 2:30 to see if I can get an out of hours gp apt but not looking likely this late on in the day.
