Hi everyone new to the group
I just went in for a normal routine 35 weeks scan and I was told baby has severe ventriculomegaly measuring 23mm and 25mm with cysts and blood clots

I really don’t know what to expect there is not much information about this issue

Doctors won’t tell me anything for sure till baby is born I was also giving the option to terminate pregnancy even at this late stage...

I’ve joined a Facebook group and have herd wonderful hopeful stories and I’m just praying my little one is safe and healthy x

I have an Fetal MRI booked for next week so I’m hoping for good results

Just really trying to stay positive here x

I would love to here the results of everyone’s VM stories (After birth)

Hello Anisa18, welcome to mumsnet. I'm sure this is a very sensitive issue and you've posted on the "Am I Being Unreasonable?" group, I'm going to report the post for you so mumsnet can move you over to an appropriate chat where you'll be better able to find support. Didn't want to read and run. x

Anisa18 · 27/12/2019 19:08

Hi I’m so sorry I didn’t realise I’m trying to delete it and I moved the this conversation to the ‘pregnancy thread’

Thank you

My 6 year old has ventriculomegaly. He also has a cleft lip/palate with all the problems that go with it and learning difficulties. We don't know if his issues are connected or random. He has had over 20 general anaesthetics. He is also the most perfect boy who ever lived. If your baby is like him you will be very lucky indeed.

Hi OP

We've moved this over to the pregnancy topic now.

Sending love and best wishes from MNHQ. Flowers

sunshinekids · 27/12/2019 19:14

@elliejjtiny

Your son looks so sweet. Star

Loveisntblind · 27/12/2019 19:18

Not to worry, we've all done it before. Smile

AIBU is great but there are some quite rude people about and I know you must be in need of real support right now. Please don't take the report in the wrong way, it's commonly used to help posters get to the right group.

I hope you find lots of positive stories, and a great support network and that all is well in the end. I hope the MRI brings good news for you and your baby. x

My second had this plus something with the kidneys. We were told had 2% chance of being Down Sindrome. Were given option of termination, but refused.
Had MRI scan at 28 weeks but they couldn't find more that we already knew. Apparently it's difficult to get a good MRI of baby in belly as they might just move the whole time, as my boy did.

I delivered at 32 weeks due to severe preeclampsia ( emergency section) and my baby passed away due to genetic mutation. He looked perfect thou on the outside. If I knew he won't survive I would have enjoyed each minute more, make more memories.

I had a DD afterward which is perfectly healthy, and now expecting number 4 which so far looks perfect.

I hope all goes well with you, I remember reading stories of baby's who after being born ended up being perfectly healthy, so don't loose hope!

@Anisa18 just wanted to say hello & to let you know that I am available if you want to ask anything. I’m a midwife who specialises in screening and complex fetal medicine issues. Happy for you to private message if you prefer.
It is extremely difficult to predict what the outcome will be. The MRI may give more information, but please don’t expect it to give “good news”. There is clearly an issue for your baby, the MRI may give an indication what the underlying issue is.
Brain issues of this type are some of the rare times that we can offer termination at this late stage, but is devastating to hear that being suggested as an option.
Where are you having the MRI?

elliejjtiny · 27/12/2019 21:05

@sunshinekids thankyou, he really is.

Hello! My baby had ventriculomegaly, ended up being severe hydrocephalus which is now controlled by a device called a shunt. She is disabled but so happy and the best thing that ever happened to me xx

Anisa18 · 28/12/2019 01:05

@PleaseHelpM3

What were the ventricles measurements for your baby?❤️

OP posts:
pimples · 28/12/2019 01:13

My youngest had this, and also a TOF (treachealoesophageal fistula), and I had acute poluhydramnios.

We were terrified of what would happen, but he had the TOF repaired at birth. He's now a strapping 25 year old with 2 Masters degrees. The ventrival issue turned out to be a red herring.

Wishing you all the best x

Anisa18 · 28/12/2019 01:26

@pimples
This is so reassuring woow😩❤️
Thank you

@Anisa18 I will message you

PleaseHelpM3 · 28/12/2019 09:09

@Anisa18 each ventricle measured between 11 and 13, they never seemed to get a consistent, frequent measurement and I had a lot of scans plus the MRI.

In addition to the ventriculomegaly they found 3 other "markers ", whether those are relevant or simply because they were searching we'll never know.

When I say it all worked out I mean an awful lot of worry, then worrying what all my cortisol was doing to him while pregnant. One surgery at 10 months to resolve something, and emotionally and intellectually we've had confirmed by many doctors and teachers that all is well. High(ish - bloody talks too much in class) achiever in a mainstream school. Met all his baby milestones.

Keep posting here if it helps.

PleaseHelpM3 · 28/12/2019 09:10

And actually as someone else above said, for us the ventricles seemed to be a red herring, sounds daft but he's just big and was a big baby with a big head.

Howie11 · 11/02/2020 15:43

Hi @Anisa18
I've just found this group and was hoping to talk to you and understand your experience.
I'm 24 weeks pregnant and VM has been picked up in my scan.
I hope all is ok with you and your pregnancy
