Third Baby Gender

Tink2007 · 27/12/2019 11:31

We currently have two DDs and I am 5 weeks pregnant with our 3rd baby.

What is the likelihood of our third being another girl?

Anyone else had three babies? What are their genders?

Well if you want a scientific answer, it's 50/50 every time you conceive. The odds won't change just because you have children of a certain sex already.

Obviously there are more studies look into exactly when you conceive, to do with slow/fast swimmers, but I'm not entirely sure that has been definitively proven.

Hollywhiskey · 27/12/2019 11:33

50%. The likelihood of having three girls starting from no children is 50%x50%x50%=12.5%, but you already have the first two girls. The third is completely independent of the other two.
Congratulations on your pregnancy! X

2DD, 1DS. Though I worked for a lovely woman who really wanted a DD and she happened at number 9. 🤗😲

Tink2007 · 27/12/2019 11:51

Thank you all :) Just curious really as DH is convinced this baby will be a girl and he will be outnumbered even more 🤣

I am have an older sister, then me (female) then a younger brother :)

DialANumber · 27/12/2019 12:02

I think I read somewhere that once you have 2 of the same sex, a third the same is more likely.

Iamnotaroboteither · 27/12/2019 12:07

It does seem that if you have two of the same sex you often have a third of the same. I worked in a school and had a few 4/5 children families with all boys or all girls. Saying that, I have two boys and then had two girls although we lost a baby in between them which I think was a boy so I would have had 3 boys. Loads of people in my area lately have had their third child which is a different sex to their first two. Do you feel any different? My pregnancies were far worse carrying the girls.

firstimemamma · 27/12/2019 12:12

"Well if you want a scientific answer, it's 50/50 every time you conceive. The odds won't change just because you have children of a certain sex already."

This is incorrect.

If you have 2 of the same sex by the same man, then the odds of future children also being that same sex increase. I think it's 75% (but that particular percentage may be wrong).

For example, a couple expecting their third baby who already have 2 boys - there is a higher chance it might be another boy.

Honestly though, there's no point really trying to think about odds, statistics etc - what will be will be and it's obviously out of your hands. Congratulations on your pregnancy Smile

I have boy, two girls, and a boy. No difference during pregnancy and labour. All over due and all over 24 hours labour 🤣

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 27/12/2019 12:17

I had a boy after 2 girls.

BertieBotts · 27/12/2019 12:20

I've heard the 75% thing as well, it's based on a theory that some men produce duff swimmers of one sex and that some women have a womb that rejects embryos of one sex. But for the odds to be 75%, that would have to mean half of couples have this issue which is pretty unlikely. (based on half having 50% chance as normal and half having nearly 100% chance as they are affected) if you seem to take slightly longer than most people to conceive then maybe it could be true but it's more likely to be a horse than a zebra as they say. Pure chance causes GG 1 in 4 times and then GGG or GGB are both 1 in 8 each - exactly the same odds for you, so 50/50.

Humans like to look for patterns but two is not enough data to determine a pattern in this case.

coffeeandgin26 · 27/12/2019 12:34

I've got four. First three were boys!

Tink2007 · 27/12/2019 13:03

@Iamnotaroboteither I feel the same as I did with my girls - sicky, off fatty foods but want sweet things and McDonalds coke 🤣

Iray357 · 27/12/2019 16:00

I’m pregnant with my 3rd first 2 DS This one is DD. I knew quite early as I had totally different symptoms.

OceanSunFish · 27/12/2019 16:04

I have BGB

SylvanianFrenemies · 27/12/2019 16:09

I have had 5 pregnancies.
First 2 -DDs.
Third - early miscarriage.
Fourth - tfmr at 18w, he was a boy. I was surprised, assumed it would be a girl.
Fifth - hopefully we will see soon enough! I'm 7 weeks.

ChickenNugget86 · 28/12/2019 12:47

Going off my family it tends to be boy, girl, boy or girl, boy, girl.

DHs family all have the same sex so his aunt has 3 boys and his uncle has 3 girls.

Both our families think we're having a girl for some reason!

Goldenmother · 29/12/2019 17:51

Tink2007 have u had any scans yet ? There a company that looks at your scan pic 5-8 weeks and predict baby sex it called the ramzi method they also look at scan from 12 weeks and predict using the nub theory

PotteringAlong · 29/12/2019 17:54

I have 3 boys!

Tink2007 · 29/12/2019 18:21

@Goldenmother No, no scans yet. I’m 5w 6d today. A lot of people seem to be having early scans though it isn’t offered near me.

JadeDragon23 · 29/12/2019 18:31

3 boys here.

Goldenmother · 29/12/2019 19:03

@tink2007 I only had scans early as I wasn’t sure when my last period was and then I had some bleeding but unless you need a scan or get it done privately otherwise you have to wait till 12 weeks I’m convinced I’m having a girl but I have a boy and girl already

mistermagpie · 29/12/2019 21:24

I've got three children (all with the same father, I think that might be relevant) and it was boy, boy, girl. I looked into it and it does seem that you're very very slightly more likely to have the same sex after two of the same (statistically) but I know lots of people with three kids and none have three the same.

userabcname · 29/12/2019 21:32

Weirdly all of DH's family have 3 or 4 kids each and they are all, without fail, boy boy girl (boy). We've just had our second boy so we have followed the same pattern so far!
