Hi guys,

36 weeks and baby is breech so looking likely we will get a section.

We have bought a chicco next to me but just wondering how this will work after a section in regards to getting in and out in the bed.

Anyone been in this situation and how did it work?

We had this! I either got in the bed on the other side and moved over or got in my side at the end of the bed and just sort of scooted myself backwards if that makes any sense? Wasn’t as awful as I’d imagined it to be! Sometimes it smarted a little but hardest part was actually sitting up from laying down! Recommend tying a dressing gown belt to the end of the bed to pull yourself up with!

Oh interesting re the dressing gown belt! Did you find you were able to turn ans pick baby up once in bed or not really?

I have no idea what to expect lol! OH currently talking about putting baby on his side for the first couple of weeks.....but I want him on mine lol!

Following this as due a c section on the 31st although could be admitted tomorrow. I’ve been wondering the same thing!

I was in this situation, my boyfriend slept cot side and passed baby to me in the night (after helping me sit up and get into position!) After a few nights I had decided I was far comfier and therefore finding it easier to feed on the sofa (breastfeeding, if I were bottle feeding my positions wouldn't have mattered so much) due to reduced mobility, so I then started getting out of bed and going through to the living room To feed (this worked for me because our living room is on the first floor with out bedroom, may not be very practical if I had needed to go up and down stairs)

Turning and picking up baby was a no for me, but I had an emergency csection and I've heard anecdotally that they tend to be more rough because the surgeons are under time pressure, where as planned ones are more likely to be less rushed therefore more gentle, but I don't know if there's any truth to that!

Congrats and good luck Smile

I’ve had two emergency c-sections, breast fed both and had a Chico next to me for both, I had it my side of the bed and found it easiest to get in my side of the bed and scoot backwards up the bed as greendill said, the worst thing was attempting to sit up, I can’t explain it but I actually got stuck laid on my back in hospital with my first. I recommend a lot of pillows to prop yourself up to get comfy and to be able to sit up easily.

Everyone is different though and you may find that for the first few days you actually cope better with it being on your OH side of the bed. I found that baby (especially baby 2 woke up so often it was easier for them to be my side).

I am planning on putting the crib on OH side for at least the first few days just to make it easier getting in and out of bed. OH will have to help me sit up to feed anyway so he will then just pass me the babies when I am ready

Theholidayarmadillo4 · 27/12/2019 07:28

I had the crib on my husbands side for a couple of weeks because I was propped up on approx 400 pillows on the other side of the bed and could not have got in and out of bed with the next to me there.

I had an emergency c section. I remember picking baby up in hospital being a struggle but by the time I got home I don't remember it bothering me so much. But even when it's a struggle you still manage it just slowly! I had cot right by bed and just got on at end of bed and crawled up.

elvis4nuts · 27/12/2019 20:07

I'm having a C section on Monday and have a next to me cot.
I've just bought a very slim side table to put next to my side of the bed so I can move my bigger bedside cabinet out and therefore I have less distance to scoot down the bed to get out!

Her0utdoors · 27/12/2019 20:19

I've done it twice, once with a little side car cot and once with a full sized cot, it was fine. I couldn't lie down anyway for the first week or so any way so slept sitting up propped with lots of pillows. My babies mostly slept on the breast. The first baby carried on doing this for months tbh, the second was happy to sleep in the cot and I'd just shuffle over and offer milk when he asked them roll back out.
It was really weird when i took the cot down after about 5 years tobe able to get into bed. And to loose the surface that had been used far more for sorting laundry than putting a baby in.

Redruby25 · 27/12/2019 20:32

We had a very small room in a house share, so could only get out of the bed on one side, so I was that side, baby at the side in a Moses basket initially, and I/we managed, so anyone can. Everyone is different, but where you can even in hospital unless warned otherwise, try to take small steps in terms of getting up etc, it is a killer, but I was late and then induced and had an emergency c section, which was done on a Wednesday night, and I was on my feet the following morning. I know it's not the same for everyone, but the longer you put things off it can set your recovery back. Good luck

Claphands · 27/12/2019 20:37

A next to me cot is fine, you’ll probably have loads of pillows so will be nearer the end of the crib anyway, it’s easier than a normal cot/crib where you have to bend over the side and as for getting in and out of bed you can easily push the crib aside.

whatswithtodaytoday · 27/12/2019 20:44

I couldn't lie down flat for a while after my c section, probably at least 2 weeks. So I was already sitting up and it was easy to shuffle down the bed. I don't remember it being a problem, but I was on Oramorph for about a week!

I didn't find breastfeeding in bed at all comfy though - I usually went through to the baby's room where we have a comfy chair. I only stayed in bed when I needed my OH to keep me awake!
