39+3 Hugh discomfort when stomach goes tight. What is this?

When I was about 7-8 months pregnant I would get extreme pressure at the top of my stomach which would make me a little short of breath. I couldn't walk anywhere or it would get worse. It stopped for a while and last night it kept happening again. It feels like the top of my stomach is either going really tight or being squeezed. It's so uncomfortable I can't bare it. Midwife didn't seem bothered.
I also get severe stabbing in vagina especially at night and have done since 36 weeks, which means I stay awake writhing in pain the whole night.

I was induced before and had an epidural so I don't know what going into labor feels like.

Any ideas?

Labour!

The feelings at 7-8 months are called tightenings. They’re like practice contractions. Try a warm bath?

LeaderoftheAteam · 25/12/2019 12:49

Sounds like contractions! Good luck. Christmas day baby Xmas Grin

Braxton Hicks . You won't need to ask when it's labour as you will know due to the intensity 🤪
Enjoy Christmas. Baby will be here for new year I expect !

They are braxton hicks.

pinkstar01 · 25/12/2019 14:09

Braxton Hicks - they are practice contractions and very normal

Obligatorync · 25/12/2019 14:15

Braxton Hicks....or labour I suppose.

Thesearmsofmine · 25/12/2019 14:17

Braxton hicks, everyone says they aren’t meant to hurt but mine did! I had this for weeks with ds3 and he was still late! It could also be the start of labour but time will tell. Good luck.

Braxton Hicks contractions, I find that mine vary between painless and painful. They tend to be more painful when I'm driving or when I'm sitting very upright like in an office chair, so worth playing around to see if you can get more comfortable in a different position :)

VivaLeBeaver · 25/12/2019 15:31

Brixton hicks or if they don’t go away and get closer together then start of labour.

LilyPinkNoah · 25/12/2019 15:35

Another one to say Braxton Hicks - I found them oddly comforting because I knew my body was doing the right things and was able. I ended up with two emergency sections - because I wasn't able to progress labour naturally as I was poorly.

But looking back I feel emotional and recall yes my body did have the ability to labour naturally It knew what to do - just didn't happen due to the fact I got ill and modern medicine rightfully so has to intervene to save me and my babies.
