Having Triple Test to predict likelihood of Pre-eclampsia, anyone else been told this?

My dsis went for her booking in appt on fri and during the discussion about the AFP/Triple test the midwife said that it would also be used to check her risk of developing pre eclampsia. I wasn't told that in any of my pgs so I was a bit surprised. Dsis' blood pressure was quite high (something over 80) so that puts her more at risk of PE anyway, I suppose.

Has anyone else been told this? If you had it done, were the results accurate(ish) and did it affect your A\n care?

I think your DSIS may have misunderstood - I think they do a blood test and use some of the blood for the triple test and some to test for PE. Although they tested me and I was fine and I went on to develop PE so I am a bit dubious .

I did wonder about that, it's a bit of info overload at that appt, isn't it?

I was wondering what the point of it was as she has several risk factors and is going to be under consultant led care anyway. Surely regular checking of her BP will be a better indication?

I'd think so. But yes the booking appt is just mad. They don't want to see you for ages then they try and do everything in half an hour

As long as she knows to look out for oedema, flashing light headaches, dizziness and obviously they check her BP regularly, she should be capable of managing things herself.

That was my feeling too but it's her first pg so she's all stressy and worrying already!

Sobernow, that makes more sense to me, especially if the test's not very conclusive or accurate.

Maybe she is in the trial areas for this test but they ought to make that clear if it's the case.

whomoved, that's really interesting and the date of the article appears to be 2002 so perhaps it has been introduced to higher risk women. I'll get her to ask for more details next time she goes to the mw.

Olihan - I have been offered it for my next pregnancy - along with a dietary supplement of vitamins

So maybe it's been rolled out already - TBH I didn't bother to listen too much when they were telling me about it - was too busy yelling 'yeah right, I'm really likely to have another baby after this!'
