Ideas for getting rid of swollen elephantine feet?

Am 34 weeks pregnant, and my feet have started to swell.

Today they're so painful that I can hardly walk ... and my hands have joined in too.

I think it's down to the heat, but sitting with them up / down in a bowl of cool water has no effect.

I can't do the lying up the wall thing as I have spd and coccydinia, and assuming that position is both uncomfortable impossible to get out of without a hoist!

Any ideas to get them to go down? Sitting at the computer to type this has made them start to go blotchy and purple!

Hi Ejt

I've got this too, but only in 1 foot thankfully - only way I've found to get them down is to put a pillow under the end of my mattress at night so that I sleep with my feet raised - not great with SPD though, so you may find it very uncomfortable. however, I did it last night and it wasn't too bad, and my feet have not swollen up today at all, despite the continued heat today!

Not long to go now for us!!

xxx

Have to say mine are worse after a day at work, sitting all day! Strange!

Try some coffee - it's a diuretic.

No, not in work at the moment, (I'm a teacher) .. although I am looking after ds (4.10).

I'm trying not to stand at all!

Will try the pillow under the feet in bed ...

thanks all!

If you are able to sit for a bit-We circle our hands and feet clockwise and anti clockwise in yoga and massage our legs upwards towards the heart to get things circulating better. Maybe you can get a kind person to give you a nice foot massage ?
Apparently a liquidised cucumber is a good natural diuretic to drink if you have water retention.
Maybe your feet are especially swollen as your other ailments have slowed down your mobility a bit. I hope you feel better soon.

If this lasts you might want to get this checked with your doctor. I had swollen legs at the end of my pregnancy and the last few days the ankle and feet got so bad I couldn't wear my shoes. Had to wear old, lost their shape slip on sandals in Feb! Went for a routine check with the doctor at the hospital and ended up being admitted for induction with pre-eclampsia. 37 weeks. This was the only visible symptom, didn't have any spots before my eyes but did have extremely high protein in urine.

Thanks for the tips ... just a quick update - the mw popped in to see me today, and did all the checks - my bp is lovely and normal / low ... and there's no protein in my pee ... it really is just down to gestation and heat!

Thank goodness I'm in the time of year when I can wear flip-flops!
