Can anyone advise on relief for SPD? I can hardly walk at the moment and in constant pain. Finding it hard to stand and sit as well. I'm nearly 26 weeks pregnant.

Hi I’ve had this issue. It’s really misery inducing! I requested a referral for hospital physio via the midwife. I’ve also been seeing an osteopath privately which has made it more bearable. Changes in lifestyle really help if at all possible eg not carrying heavy bags, toddler, doing less housework that requires bending or awkward movements that put stress on the hips/back etc, I made some adjustments at work so do less travel ...

I've tried to speak to my midwife but they wont refer me to a physio and i cant afford private treatment. I've had horrendous hyperemesis all my pregnancy so been stuck at home since August and I don't really do much housework etc because of it.
I cannot wait to hold my baby boy and for this pregnancy to finish. On top of it all I have a terrible cough and cold and fever so that's not helping. All with Christmas as well.
I may see if the gp can refer me to a physio instead or my consultant when I see them after Christmas.

When I'm in real pain a hot water bottle on my Back bones helps. The physio told me not to put it on the front area as it can quickly heat baby, but put some ice packs on the front pubic bones.

It does help.

I need to lie flat a lot during the day as I get really tired and in pain.

Also I noticed I'm a lot better when I make time to do the exercises the physio gave me. Are good exercises to help my bones go into place and be flexible.

If you see a physio they should find the right exercises for you, as everyone is different. I was told I'm also not using the lower part of my spine and I should, also other bones are quite stiff so I was given specific exercises to help them be mobile. Obviously was told to listen to my body and not overdo.

...and your midwife should refer you, mine did refer me to the physio at the maternity unit which is great. Don't know if it helped the fact that it's my 4th baby and second time I'm getting it. Last time I was on crutches also because I was referred in my third trimester and there wasn't much I could do to help by then.

My advice was the opposite to PP. I had severe spd because my pelvic and hips were over flexible so my.pelvis opened too much and became unstable. This caused all the surrounding muscles to become inflamed as they tried to stabilise the area.

11 months post partum I'm still seeing physio but all exercises are focused on strengthening the muscles in my glues, inner thigh and core to help take the load of my pelvis.

I have no idea why your midwife won't refer you but you can also get referred by GP but physio might not be a women's health specialist.

Tips - I found ice on the front and heat on the back good. All the usual about keeping legs together and be careful how you sleep. A support belt could be good for you, they aren't too expensive on Amazon.

It's truly dreadful I really feel for you. X

Sorry I didn't explain my point properly above what I meant was my advice was differwnt from the PP so you really do need to see a physio not just Google exercises as they might not be right for you

Thank you all for your advice. I will try the ice and hot water bottles and try to push again for a physio from the midwife or gp/consultant
