As it says really what’s people’s experience/opinions on breast pads? Which are better/more comfortable? X

I much preferred the disposable ones, less bulky, didn’t move as much and seemed to hold more.

bellajay · 22/12/2019 07:47

I had quite a generous supply so I used washables quite a bit but really I needed disposables to contain the flow. The washables would soak through quite quickly, often I was using two on each side and going through them so fast I couldn’t keep up to the washing.

But a friend of mine just didn’t use breast pads at all, she just didn’t have any leaking issues really and didn’t like the feel of her disposable ones. So cloth would probably have been perfect for her!

I’d say if you can afford it get a few of each and see how you get on.

Reusables here. I get through them quickly but manage not to run out because the washing machine’s on daily anyway, and feel less bad about using loads when it’s not creating extra waste.

I'd really recommend the lasinoh disposables. They're a little bit more expensive but much better than any others I tried.

I didn't try reusables but off breast milk smells rank. I didn't want to have to be worrying about washing them straight away. Plus you only really need breastpads in the beginning, once you get your supply sorted you may find you dont need them.

Washable bamboo breast pads from Little Lamb were amazing! So much more comfortable especially with sore nipples at the start. They shed a bit of fluff at first but fine after a few washes. They come with a little net bag for washing too.

Agree that lansinoh disposables are better than most and if you leak a lot you could always double up with disposables as back up but the bamboo ones are much softer on your skin.

gonewiththerain · 22/12/2019 08:09

I don’t really leak so reusables have been fine. Got mothercare ones and been using them for 2.5 years. They are really soft
Try both

RhymingRabbit3 · 22/12/2019 08:10

Reusables, much more comfortable, better for the environment and work out cheaper in the long run.

But then I also had reusable/washable nappies and wipes so maybe that's just me.

Littlebelina · 22/12/2019 08:12

I started with disposable as at first reusable didn't cut it but switched to bamboo ones once my supply settled.

Russell19 · 22/12/2019 08:18

I use the reusable asda ones. They are great.

mclover · 22/12/2019 08:34

Lansinoh resuables - great

R2D2abc · 22/12/2019 09:12

As others said , Lansinoh disposable. I didn't have time to be bothered to wash also breast pads. This ones kept my breasts dry even thou I leaked a lot. I will buy a Hakka pump to collect let down when I breastfeed baby for this time.

firstimemamma · 22/12/2019 09:30

I've used both and was very happy when I switched over to boots reusables. Wish I'd used them from the start. Save a load of money and also reduce your household waste.

The only thing I would say is it can be handy to have a box of disposables for certain occasions e.g going away for a few days and no daily access to a washing machine.

firstimemamma · 22/12/2019 09:35

Also all the people saying they 'don't have time' to wash reusables - I don't really understand that as there's no extra time or effort involved. I simply popped a pair in my daily laundry load. So easy.

R2D2abc · 22/12/2019 09:43

@firstimemamma for some people might work reusable, for me I have a washing system which wouldn't work. I don't wash daily and when I wash I wash certain things separately ( eg. Baby stuff, towels, beddings, other items) so that's why for me personally wouldn't work as I would be able to put them in baby wash as that how I feel about them, plus I use quite a few each day so I would need a good amount. That's just me and I shared it as OP asked.

It's great that for others reusable work well. Smile

Selfsettling3 · 22/12/2019 09:46

I find reusable bamboo ones so much more comfortable, especially on sore nipples. I find with the disposable ones they crinkle and need replacing every feed as the sticky backing doesn’t allow you to readjust after a quick feed.

ToTravelIsToLive · 22/12/2019 10:03

I use reuseable bamboo ones. I used disposable and found the really expensive ones were great but the cheaper ones kept bunching. I wasn't prepared to spend a fortune to throw them away. I also find the reuseable hold a lot more

HoneysuckIejasmine · 22/12/2019 10:07

Yes little lambs bamboo ones. I'd recommend washing a few times before use (just chuck them in with normal load, no need to dry in between washes if you don't have time) because they do shed a bit at first. DS had tongue tie so picking bits off fluff from shredded nipples wasn't fun.

They are great though. Used for over a year and passed them on to a friend.

firstimemamma · 22/12/2019 10:11

@R2D2abc that's fair enough but the vast majority of mums do washing daily (every mum I've ever known plus there was a thread a while ago asking how often you do the washing and almost every person with a baby does it daily). I'm actually quite jealous that you get days off from it! Take careSmile

EstebanTheMagnificent · 22/12/2019 18:59

I didn’t need to do laundry daily when I only had one baby 🤷🏼‍♀️
