Pinderfields in wakefield?

Mrspimplepopper · 21/12/2019 21:30

Partners can stay overnight on the delivery suite only

rottiemum88 · 21/12/2019 21:35

You can't pay for a private room as far as I'm aware. I gave birth there by EMCS 11 months ago and was put in a private room by pure luck as the ward was full. Not sure about partners staying overnight as mine couldn't anyway, so left late and came back early the next day. Care was good overall, although no one came to help/check on me and DS through the night despite it being difficult to move after the operation. I guess I could have pressed the buzzer but I'd have felt bad for doing that short of an emergency. The midwives in the actual labour ward were amazing

Sorry yes pinderfields in Wakefield. Wrote my message so late last night when anxiety was kicking in! It's my first baby so I'm really nervous as I have no idea what to expect x

@rottiemum88 that's good about the midwifes but not about nobody checking on you! That's my biggest worry. No sleep, had to go through labour, especially if it ends up being a section then send my partner home and expect me to look after a new born. What happens if you need the toilet, do you buzz? I can't imagine I'd just leave my new born alone whilst I went to the toilet. X

If you need the loo and are able to go unassisted then just go, your baby will be fine for a few minutes. If you need help of any kind then buzz

rottiemum88 · 21/12/2019 22:18

I had a catheter for the first 12 hours after the section so I'm not sure about going to the loo, but if you're comfortable enough to get up and go then Im sure your baby would be fine for a couple of minutes as PP said. I guess because I was in a private room I might have been paid slightly less attention to than those on the main ward, but based on things I've read that also had its benefits, in that me and DS both slept pretty much straight through the first night. It's the only time he's ever managed it mind, but I very much appreciated it after 2 days in labour Grin

With regards to going to the loo, you can either wheel baby there with you (the cots are on wheels and the bathrooms big enough to have it in with you) or just leave baby on the ward. The ward is locked and there's a security guard.

I've spent the last 2 nights on the maternity ward in Pinderfields, waiting for a labour room so my waters can be broken (10 days overdue and had some bleeding on friday). I'm frustrated that things are taking so long and I don't seem any closer to having a baby, but I really can't fault the care I've had from the staff on the ward, especially the midwives. They are on restricted visiting at the moment due to Norovirus, so once you've had the baby and get moved to the maternity ward partners are allowed 8am to 10pm but then visiting is restricted to only 1 other person between 3pm and 4pm and 7pm and 8pm I believe. Partners can stay overnight whilst your still on the labour ward though. I've seen around 10 people come and go around me with their babies so far, and most seem happy to leave their babies alone for a couple of minutes to nip to the toilet. I've also noticed the midwives coming round in the early hours asking if anyone needs any breast feeding support, does anyone need any more pain relief etc. Hope this gives you some reassurance, I can update you on my experience on the labour ward once I get to that point!

bluemarie87 · 23/12/2019 21:57

@salad49 any update? Xx

I'm still on the ward waiting to have my waters broken 72 hours after going to triage and being told I couldn't go home because it was too much of a risk...

Still honestly cannot fault the staff, they have been amazing and everyone seems to be hugely frustated with the situation, the labour ward is obviously short staffed and there are too many people going in to labour naturally to allow for movement of those getting induced. So as long as you don't need induction you should be fine.
