Does anyone know about Anti - C antibodies?

Hi, I'm 8 weeks pregnant with second baby, my DS is 6 months old. I went for bloods at booking appointment a few days ago and have just had a call from midwife to say there are Anti - C antibodies in my blood, and I need to go for another blood test to find out the levels before my appointment with the consultant (!!?) in January.

I am Rh negative blood group, but my last pregnancy was completely fine and I had anti d at 28 weeks and again after he was born.

I've never heard of anti c and obviously starting to worry what this might mean. Does anyone have experience of this?

This is potentially quite complicated to explain and your consultant will go through it all with you.
There are lots of different antibodies you can develop in your blood. Some of these can potentially create problems, mainly by your antibodies attacking baby’s blood cells and making them anaemic. The amount (level) of antibody determines how much chance there is & that will be monitored throughout the pregnancy.
Basically it is very good news that this has been identified, as monitoring can help keep baby safe.
Did you have a blood transfusion after your last birth?

Thanks for the reply. No, I didn't have a blood transfusion last time, baby did have a positive blood group but I don't even think our blood mixed during the birth. Only thing I can think of is the heart rate monitor clip on his head which may have caused blood to mix with mine, as I had a tear and episiotomy.

Thanks for the info - I'll wait to see what the consultant says. Not a great deal of information online about anti-c.
