IBS/IBD sufferers....Imodium during pregnancy?

Hi everyone, the only threads I can find about this topic online are ones from mums in America who apparently got told by their doctor it’s ok to take Imodium during pregnancy. So I need some advice from mums in the UK who have taken it quite a few times during pregnancy and been ok! There must be someone out there who has???

In the UK we get told not to take it, or only to take it as a complete last resort.
This isn’t very helpful for IBS-D or IBD sufferers :(
My doctor told me I can take colpermin which I’m reluctant to try because it’s not actual an anti-diarrhoea medicine and wouldn’t have the same effect as Imodium.

Another nurse at the early pregnancy unit told me I can take Imodium if I absolutely need to.
I am currently almost 12 weeks pregnant and have taken about 4 or 5 doses of it since being pregnant (the first 2 doses were before I knew I was pregnant).
It sounds like a lot, but please don’t judge me because I usually have to take it once a week so I really have been trying to manage without! However I still have to work, and on days where my tummy is particularly bad I’ve had no option but to take it. I can’t keep calling in sick! Then I just spend all day feeling guilty and being terrified that my baby is going to have something wrong with it :(

Recently I went 3 weeks without taking it as I started getting constipated which is a dream for me! However this week by bad tummy is back again :(

So, I really want to hear from any sufferers who have taken it regularly and their baby has been ok. There must be someone out there somewhere!!!?

Only nice comments please, it’s hard enough having a digestive disorder and being pregnant x

I have IBD which I have suffered with during pregnancy. I think you need to go to your doctor and discuss being signed off. You shouldn't have to take medication that could potentially be harmful so you can go to work. Your pregnant and the health of you and your baby comes first. Sorry your dealing with this too, I know how difficult it can be xxx

I had to take steroids for IBD while pregnant and everything was fine in the end, it is always worrying though. As MockingJay says you need to discuss with your doctor. I think a lot of the caveats are because the decision should be taken with medical advice rather than there being a shown risk - if that makes sense?

@OP there was a post not long ago, maybe2 or 3 weeks ago, about the same subject. Look for it as it might help you.

Thanks everyone! MockingJay you’re right. Every time I take it because of work I get annoyed and think that no job is worth the health of my baby. It’s so difficult :( I haven’t been signed off because I can go a few weeks and be absolutely fine. It’s so annoying! :( I have my booking in appointment with the midwife on Monday so will definitely discuss things with her x
