Cervix closed at 7mm, any hope?

Hi,

I am looking for any stories from people who went through something similar!
I had my 20 week scan today and baby is fine, cute little girl and all measurements etc are great, however I was advised that my cervix is only 7mm closed and dr came in and mentioned that for it to be good news it has to be 20mm or more, I'm waiting for blood results to see if there are any infections , if not, we might be able to have progesterone shots to prevent pre term labour so I'm holding onto that little bit of hope but also am making peace with the fact that it may not work out! I've had back pains and pressure in my uterus for a week with no bleeding and midwives said it's nothing to worry about but apparently those were symptoms!
Anyway, does anyone know if there is any chance of baby girl holding out till at least viability week?
I feel numb and scared and obviously want to have her healthy but I know there is nothing I could have done to prevent this.

Didn't want to read and run sorry I have no experience but hope it all works out. Can they not put a stitch in it to help keep it closed? Xx

Have they mentioned bed rest?

I didn't have such a short measurement at my 20 week scan but it was still shorter than they'd have liked. Is it too late for a stitch? I was advised no exercise and obviously no sex. I also had progesterone suppositories. If it had shortened further, they would have placed a stitch. My cervix stabilised and I now have a (screaming) 6 week old baby. Good luck x

Hi all,

Thank you for responding! I am being kept in to see if there is any infection, the option for a stitch is available once they know for sure there is no infection that would be "locked" in the womb. Fingers crossed for results tomorrow! They haven't mentioned bedrest. The progesterone tablet may be offered too, let's see how it goes! X

@Bleepers, great news that it stabilised! I'm hoping for the same if I get the stitch etc
